Sorry if this should be posted elsewhere. We have decided to put our remaining 95 points up for rent. Before I officially post it on the for rent board, I wanted to get the ends and outs on how to rent them out.

How do most people do the money transaction. Do I need to set up a pay pal account?

Do I just make the ressie for the renter?

How do people handle cancellations by the renters?

Is there usually an official contract?

Any advise would help tremendously.

First of all, Happy New Year from EVER!

I'd also review:

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Which is Webmaster Doc's message to prospective renters, as a result of issues that have come up.

and

DVC Point Rental Primer Diznyfanatic's excellent thread from a year ago, during the throes of a big rental fraud situation. This was actually started on the Sad Story thread below, and then pulled out for emphasis and to make it easier for people to find, and contribute to.

and...for those quiet nights in the backcountry (provided you have reliable Internet Access...as opposed to You Know What!):

Sad Story from One Who Trusted Without Checking This is the definitive thread on DVC rental fraud, because it is actually about a fraud issue as it was unfolding. Within "Sad Story's" 59 pages -- spanning about two months of nailbiting -- you will find the story of deception and betrayal, rallying, support, and pixie dust, and a lot of things that are really the best of the DIS community.

Granny's thread on contracts, mentioned by Mike above, will give you a lot of great input on that subject. These three threads will help you understand WHY prospective renters ask all those crazy, detailed questions.

Thanks! And a Happy New Year from BIBE.

Thanks for the info. I tried doing a search, but only pulled up threads of people wanting to rent a members points. I am not really sure I want to open the can of worms of renting points, but thought we would get all the info.

PS: It's good to see another NPS'er into Disney. Most people here think I am crazy. But what the hey, it gives them something to talk about.

And also this thread, which discusses some of the frustrations of renting from an owner's perspective:

Pay particular attention to post #27 by Dean, and other posts by some of our members who are well-experienced at actual renting transactions.

Any of us (myself included) can pontificate about the subject; not all of us have actually DONE it. It's kinda like working with wildlife, real experience trumps logic and study.

Oh, you're nuts all right! But at least you're not alone. I referred one of our HR folks last year...and she's still speaking to me!
