How to remove this virus?

I'm not sure if I even have it. Someone I email frequently asked me via email what I was trying to send her because she couldn't open it. It read "RE: Incoming Fax". I didn't send her anything like it.

She emailed me to tell me she got message from her ISP saying she got the virus "W32/Bagle.z@MM" from my email account.

I ran my Norton Antivirus and it didn't pick it up

Suggestions anyone?

Someone has really desperately been trying to send me a virus in an e-mail. It has happened at least three different days. My virus program always finds it and deletes it.

Mine says it comes from W32.Netsky.P@nn. It has had different messages but never about a fax. The e-mail addressess are never from anyone that I know.

I don't know, I am totally computer illiterate. That is what I have children for

My scan comes up clean too.

One of the things the Bagle virus does is spoof the sender's address. The virus will scan an infected computer for email addresses, both in the address book, as well as in any documents. It will pick one of them as the sender, and then send itself out to every address it finds.

I did this scan and though it didn't tell me which one it found, it was only one and it removed it.

Another way you can get virus from people you dont know is like this...

Someone will send an email to someone CCing it to lots of other people as well. All those people will also see all the other email addresses that this was sent to and can in turn add those people to their address list. If anyone of those get hit with a virus and use the outlook express email program can send the virus out to everyone on their address list.

This happened to me. I had a email address that never got any viruses. Well one day a friend sent me an email that cc'd to other people...few days later I had viruses sent to me from another person in the cc list.

I changed my email again and asked her please not to include me with a CC list, just send mine email seperately.

Waaah! I just tried that Panda link and when I clicked "scan for viruses" it said the page wasn't available. Anyone else have this problem, or is there a virus in my computer that is trained in self-defense and won't let Panda in ?

Dan, thanks for trying to help. Clicking on that scanner at the lower left takes me to the page with the free scan button, and that still takes me to the error page. Perhaps they are just working on it right now and it will be up again later. I'll keep trying... do you think it's possible that I have a virus that won't let that page run???

That happened to me iluvtink...I tried to use the TrendMicro virus scan and the virus that I had didn't allow the page to load fully.
When I contacted TrendMicro about it they said it was probably a virus that was stopping the page. Their suggestion was to try a different scan.

I did find a virus through a different scan and when I finally elminated it was able to get the Trend Micro one to scan.

These viruses are SOOOOOOOO tricky!!!

Something has killed my Internet Explorer and the Symantec link Dan gave me above will only work with Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher! When I looked at the actual Internet Explorer file, it said something like "Internet Explorer Q1342123" I have no idea what the number was, just that it began with a Q, and in the columns that showed file size, last used, etc., it was blank. So I hit uninstall, and a window said it would restore it it to the previous version of Internet Explorer. Now, after re-booting there is no IE in the list of programs at all! When I went to Microsoft website to re-install IE, it said that if re-installing on Windows XP, it would be necessary to edit the registry (register?) Whoa, that's too dangerous for me!

Internet Explorer can't actually be removed from Windows. (I'll save that rant for some other time). the Q##### thing that you removed was an update patch to Internet Explorer, not the actual browser.

To get the latest version of Internet Explorer, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ... select IE from the list of files it presents you with (you should also get any critical security updates it finds)

If it can't be removed, then why doesn't it show up anymore in the list when I click "add or remove programs"? Also, when I go to the Microsoft IE Website, it says that the 6.1 thing can't be loaded onto Windows XP. I am ready to throw it out the window....

Lorix2, yes, I did run the scan that Dan gave us the link to. Just finished actually.

No viruses were found.

Dan, I tried it too, thanks, but it won't run without a IE Browser of 5.0 or higher and I have IE 0.0 right now.

I'm DISing on Netscape Navigator... NOTHING will keep me from the DIS (even if I have to go to the public library for one of their computers!!!)
