I guess the title sums it up! How do you all pack things that could potentially make a huge mess? Things like sunscreen, lotions, shampoo, etc. I used to take stuff like that as carryon but now I can't with the liquid ban. I'd love to hear any ideas!

Thanks,
JULIE

I pack all those types of things in ziplock bags. That way if they spill it won't go all over the place.

We have never had a problem with things opening during the flight, but ziploc bags are your friend on a WDW vacation. We bring a box for additional stuff that gets accumulated during the trip as well.

I second the ziplock bags idea!! It works great and if something does go wrong, all of the messy contents are in the bag! No mess to clean up!:thumbsup2

Yes, I agree with the others! I get the heavy duty zip lock freezer bags and pack a few bottles of messy things in each one. Don't overpack the zip locks - give the stuff to move around in there. Also bring lots of extra bags because like the other posters said, you can use them for lots of things!!

Along with the ziplock bags.... tape the caps on.... simple just a strip across the top and down past the cap on the sides can keep the flip tops from opening.

I once had a perfume leak all through my cloth tolietry bag and it ruined some clothing on a business trip. :scared1: Now I wrap my bag in another plastic bag like from the grocery store before I pack it in my suitcase just to make sure. All others, I normally put into ziplock bags as the other posters have mentioned.

Ziplock bags as well. I pack all of them in ziplock bags and then put them in my check-in. I put liquid meds, toothpaste, etc. that have taste in one bag and others like shampoo, sunscreen, liquid soaps, etc. in another. If my shampoo spills, I don't have to worry about getting it off my medicine bottle - I can tell you from experience, this isn't pleasant.

Thanks, everyone. That's what I thought but just wanted to see if there was some other idea out there I didn't know about! You guys are the best!!! :grouphug:

Bed Bath & Beyond has a plastic pouch filled with little bottles for stuff . Its meant for your carry on luggage and meets airline regulations.

I have done the ziplock bags, but I also put saran wrap under the caps for extra protection. My mom did that when we were little and I do it now too.

I not only use the ziploc bags, but I don't carry full size containers. I use samples! You can get free samples of so many "personal care" items, I pick them up at in-store demos and there are thousands of websites that will direct you to where to send away for free samples. I have a full drawer just of sample-size items that I use for traveling, that way there's less to spill, it's harder to spill, and if it does spill I didn't lose anything of value (i.e. a full bottle of shampoo). Examples of what I pack sample sizes of for traveling: shampoo & conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, perfume. Another bonus: nothing to bring back home. Just think of how much room that saves in your suitcase for souvenirs!

I also try to use wipes if they are available, such as sunscreen wipes, bug repellant wipes, and sanitizing wipes. Easier to carry around the parks too, just toss a couple in your bag or even in your pocket each morning.

I double-ziploc my stuff (put them in one ziploc, seal it, then place the first ziploc into another one and seal that one, too).

I just read a cool tip in a travel article that said to "burp" your bottles of liquids like shampoo. Make sure you don't fill the bottle to the brim, then before you screw on the cap, push out some of the air, then screw the cap on tightly. This helps to keep the bottles from overflowing (especially if you're flying, when your bags may be in an unpressurized part of the plane).

We're also members of the ziplock club. We usually take what's left of the box also for those messy things we always manage to find and bring back.

I use ziplock bags as well. I always double them just in case. Never had a problem with anything spilling out.

I like to buy a little (but tough) tupperware or rubbermaid container and fill it with travel-sized liquids. Then I place that inside a large ziplock. That way, even if something heavy is packed on top of it, the bottles don't get squished and then leak.:thumbsup2
