How to modify reservations made online?

I am planing my trip for next Easter, to make sure that I can get a Value Studio at AKV for that weekend, I jumped online this morning and reserved one for 7 nights. I actually only need the last 5 nights, doing it this way gave me 2 days head start. (as I saw the value rooms for the previous weekend are all gone already.)
I know online booking only allow cancellation of the entire trip, so I will call MS on the phone to ask them to modify my reservation for me later. Now my question is: Will MS able to just shorten the length of stay, or they also need to cancel my existing reservation and make a new one? If all the value room are booked by then, will there be any chance I will lose the room in the process if someone else already waitlisted for those nights?

Am I worrying to much?

I did the same for VGC for September. I booked a day early and then called the next day and cancelled the first day. They had no problem modifying the reservation. Then my friend booked the last 3 nights, so I called and dropped the last 3 nights from mine and linked her reservation.

Call MS, they can just drop a day.

You can call and drop the two nights after you are at or past 11 month window for desired start date. In other words wait at least two days before calling and dropping first two nights.
