How to make money without a job

Wow. I'm very surprised with the outpouring of responses in just a few days! Thank you to everyone who helped me with all your different ideas and words of encouragement.

For those of you who wish to waste your time judging, making assumptions, and trying to turn me away from this goal... first of all, you do not know me. The only fee that I am even partially responsible for with college are my books and personal fees (food, clothing, etc). I have no obligation to tuition and room/boarding. I am going to an in-state public university, so the cost is a lot easier on my parents, who are the primary spenders on my education. And I'm not saying that I'm not going to work while I'm here- I'm looking for a job everywhere. In fact, I was just in the middle of some job hunting when I decided to take a short break to see how this thread was going. I have a very good work ethic, any of my previous employers will tell you that, so it's not like I'm trying to go on this trip without having to lift a finger (like I said, I'm planing on working A LOT during my vacations).

I suppose I worded my question incorrectly. I plan on working as much as I can, but until I get a job, I was wondering how I could make money on the side to fund this trip.

And you should all be pretty grateful that a young person like me is trying to fund a trip to DISNEY WORLD, and not Las Vegas or Miami where I'm gonna waste all of my money on alcohol and what-not.

Again, to those of you who have given me HELPFUL suggestions and ideas.... I will certainly look into some of those. For the rest of you who thought you could deter me from my goals... think again. I actually laughed at some of your comments because you think I'm some immature college kid who cares more about a fantasy cruise than my education.

Have a magical day everyone :goodvibes

Why not help your parents fund your college and they can have a $5K vacation that they surely deserve?

Wow - my daughter just graduated from college on my dime and she's been working hard over the years to save 5-6K, too. But her goal was to get a great head start on her emergency fund and savings she wanted to have in place in case of a job loss.

I think it would make her sick to hear of someone getting the same generous help to pay for college and using the money she had earned to go to WDW and take a cruise. She knows how much work went into saving that money. Different strokes for different folks...

I didn't think you were immature but now I do. Sorry.

I don't see why I should be grateful. Your trip to Las Vegas or Miami wouldn't impact me at all. Your trip to WDW may happen while I'm there, and you'll be taking up room. ;)

No ... I thought you're an immature college student who cares more about a fantasy vacay than living in the real world. My opinion has not changed.

In your shoes I'd save up $5-$6k so I could buy a reliable used car once I graduated college rather than have a car loan, but that's just me.

That said, if a child of mine saved up $6k by the end of college and graduated with good grades and without any debt, if they wanted to blow it on a vacation I wouldn't care (I would hint that a reliable car would be a better use of the money though! ;) ) . I plan on paying for most of my (future) child(ren)s education and my only requirement is that they get good grades, that's "payback" enough for me.

If I remember correctly the OP is just 18 and her BF is 17 and still in high school. In 2012 they would be either late Sophomore/Freshman or early Junior/Sophmore.

If you can save that much money then use it toward college. Or life after college. You aren't going to be on the parent's payroll forever.

eh, if the OP is looking to save for a vacation, good for her. When in college there were times when we went off with friends for a getaway/spring break type thing - granted, it was more of a Squeeze as many people as we can in a car and sleep on the floor of a motel room at the beach venture (think dirt cheap) but life doesn't have to be all serious, save for rainy day just in case type thing. When you're young and stupid is the time to live on the financial edge. We survived it and so will she.
That being said, OP - lots of great suggestions here as far as looking for jobs. Where do you go to school? Are you in a big city, or small town area? If you're in a big city you might have better luck in finding some out of the box type jobs. When in college I did things like typing term papers, dog walking, house sitting, answering service, mystery shopping, babysitting, waitressing, and phone solicitor.
