How to make extra money?

I sell on etsy and find the fees to be really reasonable. It can take some effort to get your shop and items noticed, though.

babysit! i make 60 a weekend! also try selling on facebook, I have a freind who posts her crafts and we all ask how much and buy

I do my surveys on quickrewerds.net through them. Right now I am watching videos to make money.

May sites that make money is:
gifthulk I just do videos
swagbucks video more videos/games
can'tbeatfree - videos
zoombucks - videos/games
irazoo - videos/games
mtruk - I just take surveys

I am about start a couple more. Also I have summer job too.

Thanks for the reference! I tried that site, but after spending several minutes on each survey (on about 5 different surveys) I would get to the end after putting in my age, age/birthdates of my family, race, gender, etc, etc....and it would say, "Sorry, but you don't qualify for this survey." UGH! It would be so much easier if I could create a profile and then take the surveys that I'm eligible for. Maybe I'll try the video thing.

Update!

I did some searching around for mystery shopping jobs and found quite a few jobs in my area. One of them expires tomorrow so I really hope they process my "application" and get back to me soon because it's an awesome deal!

The "job" pays $20 and they reimburse you up to $45 to have your oil changed. I'm overdue for an oil change anyway so that will be PERFECT if they get back to me in time so I can do it! It's worth looking into!

I also had some success getting to some actual surveys that I qualified for, but I don't know that it's worth it...to me at least. I spent probably 20 minutes taking a survey and got 65 cents. Most of the other surveys pay 10 or 25 cents and take 10-15 minutes! Plus, there's usually an amount (like $20) you have to reach before you can cash out. It would take FOREVER to reach $20 doing surveys IMO.

That is true! Some survey sites are just not worth it.
I like using Swagbucks, it tells you the length and how many points you'll earn. I just started using it a couple of months ago and already earned a $10 walmart gc and a $10 domino's gc. ;)

I also try selling items on Facebook before anywhere else. My county even has a couple of "yard sale" pages on Facebook where we all buy/sell/trade things. Try looking for a page in your area.
There is a big kids consignment sale that comes here twice a year and I try to save a lot of my kids nice clothes for that. I usually make about $100+ on that every time.

I used to teach math/science so now I tutor math every week for 6 kids. I run a small hair bow and girls hand sewn Disney clothing boutique on Facebook and locally, I have a bin that I dumb items that are gathering dust (nice condition toys, leather purses I don't carry anymore etc etc) and list all at once on Craigslist or a local Facebook swap group.

My husband is an RN and he picked up a contingent weekend job. It is nice because he doesn't work every week, but the couple days a month he does go in really helps the savings account!

I only do surveys every once while now. I like watching videos better.

How do you search for these or find them or whatever? I dont' even know what to look up or how.

I have used swagbucks for several years. You could say I'm a pretty hardcore swagger ;) For the past year I have earned $75+ every month on swagbucks. Last year, I always cashed in for amazon gift cards. I had almost $800 saved up in amazon credit for Christmas! So far in December and January, I have been cashing in for paypal as well since they lowered the cost of the prizes.

I am also a member of several local FB yard sale groups. I have had minimal luck selling items, but quite a bit of luck purchasing items (I know this thread is about making money, not spending it.) I bought a total of 6 AG dolls with several outfits and accessories off that site. I kept 1 doll for my DD for Christmas and sold the other 5 plus the accessories on ebay. I made a profit of $285! I also purchased several mixed lots of toys (like huge trash bags filled with stuff) and resold the items at a consignment sale. I made several hundred dollars that way too!

I also sell on ebay, mostly toys and various used items. I made enough $ in Nov & Dec to pay for my DH's college tuition for this semester. It felt good to pay cash and not have to take out a loan.

You just have to be creative and keep your eyes open for opportunities.

OP here thanks everyone for your thoughts! My husbands job has had is hours cut but the bennies are great so we are looking for new income streams.....thanks for the advice!

As to EtSY what do you all sell?

My extra income prob will not help the OP but if anyone else is lurking it may fit

I officiate ice hockey at night and weekends. But really any sport needs officials and most times it is pretty easy to get into if you know the game and get some basic gear. Because I really only do it for fun right now, I only work for 1 league and do about 5 games a month. I make my own schedule for the most part and I can being home about $120 a night doing 2 games a night, each game only an hour and a half. By when I really needed cash I was working all the time for many leagues and age levels.

If it is interesting, go to a local high school or rec league and ask the refs who to contact. Hockey is a little different bc I am certified through USA hockey yearly. But I've also worked flag football and that was just 1 class and then a meeting every year. Football was $50 cash per game on the field and I would do 4 games on a Sunday.

You really need to like the sport and have an understanding of it, but it is great money and exercise. I've been officiating hockey for over 12 years now.

I give QuickRewards a :thumbsup2 as well. I find it only takes about 30 seconds each (most of the time) to go through survey qualifiers. I discovered that quite often while there may be no survey available in the morning, if I tried again in the afternoon and/or evening - I get a survey a day, sometimes more. Between the surveys, shopping, quick click-links, radio & videos - the money adds up quickly. From Feb-Dec last year I cashed out for $300 in Disney Gift Cards. I'm at $43 right now saving for another $100 Disney GC. This month I'm averaging $1.12 per day with QuickRewards. If I were in the States, I would get more surveys and earn more. While I consider myself lucky to earn $35 a month with them, I know others who consistently earn $100 a month.

Did you get that Mystery Job? It sounds interesting. Let us know how it went.

I keep hearing about Swagbucks and I gave it a half-hearted attempt about a year ago. I just found it so confusing. But I think it's time to try and put some serious effort into it. That's a good amount of $ you earned!

There's another company I'm with that once I hit $80 I can cash out for 200 Air Miles. I'm not sure how I signed on with them. I asked how to refer a friend and was told only company sponsors can invite people.

What about I-SAY? Their surveys cash out in points (think pennies) at 45 points (.45 cents) or 90 points (.90 cents) per survey. As soon as I reach $15, I cash out via paypal. I cashed out for $30 from July-Dec last year, and have $10.85 to-date this year.

Pinecone Research - pays $3 per survey though surveys are few and far in between. I earned $30 from April-Dec last year.

Another survey company I'm with pays out $1 - $2.50 per survey. I cashed out $40 last year and have $8.50 so far this year.

I'm enjoying this discussion! My husband and I have been struggling with our finances since just before Christmas. We moved back to his home town so we could help out his mother who is unwell. Unfortunately, it hit our finances pretty hard. Surveys are my latest find. You won't get rich from them but the extra money is appreciated. I just wish I'd known about them before Christmas because a lot of the sites offer amazon vouchers. This site's useful if anyone's interested http://www.surveycomparison.com/

If anyone can mention other ways to make money, it would be appreciated. Has anyone had luck with article writing? I've read you can get paid for writing articles.

Yes, I've written a number of them.

I'm not big on sites like Constant Contact. They seem to have a good reputation, but somehow they've never been a real source of extra income for me. But it may be different for you.

Instead, I've googled "submission guidelines for magazines" or something similar. That will tell you how to submit your work to a variety of different magazines. I've had a number published.

Etsy question. Howdo you get paid? I did a bit of searching and it seems like they want a premium payday account?

How do you get paid if omen uses. Credit card? It is probably
Y obvious but I just don't get it?

Another way to make money not a lot of people know about is selling photos and illustrations on micro-stock sites like istockphoto.com.

You need to fill out some paper work and such, but once you are approved you can begin uploading photos for people and designers (like me) to use in brochures, websites, etc.

Now please don't take this as being rude, but you need to have good quality photo skills, but many people do. You don't need to be the next Ansil Adams, but photos from your cell phone of your Aunt Maggie blowing out her birthday candles will no fly. I also would not upload family
Photos, or of anyone you know bc you have no control over where the photo may end up.

take a spin through the site and see what types of photos they sell and see if you might be a fit.

The beauty of this is that as soon as they are up there, they do all the work and if it is a good shot or subject...one photo will pay out over and over again. You will need to "Tag" the shot, that is add key words that would match what people are searching for. But if you are a good shooter, you can upload new photos all the time that will wait to be bought.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, Alice. I've just googled as you suggested and I'm going through the results now.

Great thread!:)

I did mystery shopping years ago, and went through a period of time when I never had to pay for an oil change for our cars. It was wonderful. I also once got a massage, dinners, some gas.
