On a sort of diet lol.

Anyway i bought some prepared salad, and want to know how to make it more appertising and tastey without putting a bottle of salad cream on it lol.

I can't stand Salad cream or Mayonnaise Yuk!

I make a simple salad dressing using a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Chinese/thai, soy or teriyaki sauce, very finely chopped/ shredded or grated garlic, root ginger, sweet pointed pepper or red chillies, a few drops of sesami oil and a spoonfull of ground nut oil and a tablespoon of runny Honey. Shake and store in a jar with a lid in the fridge and it keeps for ages! Yummi!!:)

a tiny pinch of garlic salt

lemon juice, herbs, ginger, finely chopped nuts, just some other suggestions - oh, and don't forget to finish the meal off with an extra large chocloate pudding :lmao:

use low fat yoghurt instead of mayonnaise if you need something creamy.

You can buy lots of diet dressings...
I'm on a 'sort of' diet too... had 3 days of salad and then couldn't face any more yesterday.. so had (and I don't recommend this) banana and lowfat cottage cheese on toast.. hmm that was interesting.

Seriously though, try having some humous to dip cucumber / peppers / carrot into. Buy a reduced fat one, but even if you don't it's low gi (keep you fuller longer / keep your blood sugar even so you don't crave choc etc) and is really good for you. Also cottage cheese is great if you like it as you can get virtually fat free stuff. I have also got some of the new Walkers Baked crisps which are 2g of fat and 98calories a pack... fairly good for dieters... and adds a bit of flavour.

Strawberries and beetroot are also considered weightloss foods.. although I'm not sure why. Pickled beet will add some more flavour to your salad too, although it will turn everything else red! Granary bread will also help you to stay full for longer. I use cottage cheese with ham or pickled beetroot instead of adding a margarine type spread on my bread, to keep the fat / calories down!

Keep it up, and good luck!

Some great toppings I use for salad are bacon bits, croutons, crumbled cheeses (like blue cheese), pine nuts, orange segments, pomegranate seeds (sounds weird but is quite tasty!), olives and pumpkin seeds.

Or sometimes I buy those pre-cooked chicken strips from Sainsburys (most grocery stores must do them) which are cooked with different spices, like thai chicken or barbecue or chicken tikka and cut them up into a salad.

But my favourite is always a bit of olive oil, splash of vinegar, salt and pepper :)

Do be careful, though. Many of these accouterments listed defeat the purpose of a diet. If you add enough bacon, cheese, olives, nuts, etc., you will end up with a salad with more calories than a hamburger! :rotfl:

If you're aiming for low-calorie, then either use a low-calorie dressing, or make one with very little oil, mild vinegar, mustard and spices. Spices can help make a bland salad more appetizing.

If you're aiming for low-carb, then skip the salad and have some sliced steak or cubed cheese.

I don't think we would generally add all those things to a salad at once :)
