How to make a tender pot roast?

I either cook it in a McCormick's Bag n' Season cooking bag or in a crock pot and they literally fall apart. Sometimes I use a big roast and flake it apart after it is finished cooking and add bar-b-que sauce and make sandwiches.

Sometimes I'll put a package of beef stew meat in the slow cooker with about 1/2 bottle of barbeque sauce. When we get home, we have chopped barbeque beef sandwiches.

Okay...I'm very, very hungry now ;)

OK enough is enough!
I am drowning in drool over here.
I am just a lowly man living alone and can't get access to good cuts of meat here, so mail samples to me!

I always use a chuck roast and I cook it in a crock pot. I put 3 packets of brown gravy and 3 cups of water in the crock pot and mix the gravy then I season the roast and put it in the pot then I cover the roast with water and cook all day on low. In the last two hours I add the veggies. It is always falling apart tender. Now I have to make a roast. This thread made me want one.:D

Always use the crock pot and I put beef boullion, 1 package lipton onion soup mix and 1 can cream of mushroom soup!!! It is SOOOOO good that way!!

I have a recipe similar to that: Add 1/2 cup red wine and some mushrooms and you have a richer taste.

Hi, everyone!

I'm the OP. Thanks for all the responses, recipies, etc. I don't think I'll ever have a tough roast again! The secret is the amount of liquid and long, slow cooking time. I just made a roast in the crock pot last night and its a winner. I made it with potatoes, carrots, and onions. I added 2 cups water, one can beef broth, and one can tomato soup. I also added the seasoning packet that comes with the cooking bag. Turned out great! I let it simmer 12 hours on low. I've tried the crock pot for roasts before, but usually put it on high for 5-6 hours. Not enough time. Now I prepare it the night before, put it in the fridge in the crock pot liner, then just put it in the crock pot when I wake up. Its nice and tender when we come home. I going to try the coke version, and the wine and mushroom idea. Thanks, everyone!

Lots of times I add red wine and mushrooms!! Red wine is beef stew is great also!!

I tried my pot roast in the slow cooker again a few days ago. I did everything the same, however, it just wasn't as tender as the first time. The second time I didn't cook it as much--10 hours on low. It was quite good, however, the meat was just a little on the dry, tough side. I've found you really need to cook that thing at least 12 hours on low, preferably 13 hours. Which means I put it in as soon as I get up (I have it all prepared the night before), and its usually nice and tender when we come home.
