How to Make a Disney Skeptic Fall in Love with WDW - August 2011 PTR

I'm calling them tentative plans because I'm going with the mindset that I'm going to be [more] flexible [than usual]. :goodvibes

Day 1 - August 20
Our flight leaves Newark Airport at 6:30 am so it's going to be an early morning! We're planning to leave our apartment at 4 am and park in a lot a mile from the airport. If their shuttle service is as speedy and reliable as the reviews say it is, we should be at the airport around 4:45. We probably don't need to be there that early but I am excellent at worrying and getting stressed out and just the thought of being late for a flight will make me break into a sweat. You never know what security will be like. And we can get some breakfast while we wait to board.

Our flight is supposed to land just before 9am and we'll be racing for the front of that magical express line. Schools in NJ will still be on summer vacation and I'm sure a large chunk of the passengers on this plane will be headed to the same place. This will be good rope drop practice for BF :lmao:

We'll check in at Pop, quickly get ready, and head to MK. I chose our parks for each day based on recommendations by Touring Plans and Easy WDW. I was excited that MK was recommended for our first day since it's considered by most people to be the essence of WDW. I know BF feels that way. I do to some extent, but Spaceship Earth really does it for me more so than the Castle. I also don't think that MK will be BF's favorite park, so I'm hoping things will just get better and better for him as the trip goes on. :goodvibes

I know I will be checking the Lines app from my phone as soon as we land to check on wait times and FP return times. My plan is to head to Frontierland first to get FP for Splash Mountain and maybe ride it or BTMRR if wait times are reasonable. From there, I'm pretty open for whatever, as long as we can collect as many FP as possible along the way. There's nothing like having a wallet full of FP to be used in the afternoon when lines are longest!

I'm sure we'll be hungry rather early which is good because dinner is pretty early too. I don't have a CS lunch picked out. I figure I'll point out places to him as we pass by them and see if any of them tickle his fancy. Perhaps he'll enjoy getting to pick the place. I have heard good things about Columbia Harbour House lately and it apparently has some great upstairs seating for relaxing and people watching. I also really enjoyed Tortuga Tavern on my last trip.

We have a 5pm ADR at The Wave so we'll take the monorail to the CR and then take it back that way BF can see the whole route - plus I think it will be too hot to walk back.

Back at the park, MSEP is at 9pm. BF isn't interested in sitting and watching the whole parade and I'm not much of a parade person either. (Wow! One WDW-related thing that we're on the same page about! :lmao:) When Spectro Magic was still playing, my favorite viewing spot was from a log on Splash Mountain. You get a pretty nice view during the outside parts of the ride.

Wishes is at 10 and at this point it may be difficult/impossible to get a spot near the exit so we'll probably watch from the Tomorrowland Bridge (not the greatest spot but it's easy to find a place just before fireworks start). If I could be one of the first people out of the park after Wishes ends, I would do that since we have a really early morning tomorrow. But I'm pretty sure things aren't going to work out that way and the park is open until 11 anyway so I suppose we'll stay until after the post-Wishes exodus.

First days are always amazing because you're FINALLY on vacation :woohoo: aaaaaaaaannddd you still have the whole rest of the trip ahead of you!!!! :yay:

Your Day 1 plans look good! :thumbsup2

Columbia Harbour House is good... I like Cosmic Rays, too. Those are the only counter-service places inside MK I've been to. I hear lots of good things about Casey's, I may have to give it a try on my next trip!

I am joining in! You are so close now! Lucky! Your "conversation" was hilarious. Good luck with the skeptic!

(and could I use any more exclaimation marks in my post!!!:lmao:)

I literally laughed out loud at your interview with your DBF :lmao: That was hilarious!

Great plans for your first day!!

Hahaha, thanks. :goodvibes I wonder how he would feel if he knew I posted that conversation on here. ;)

I'd like to try Columbia Harbour House at some point on this trip but if it doesn't work out that's okay. There are so many CS restaurants I haven't tried yet! I did eat at Casey's two years ago but I have no memory of what I ate or if I liked it. :confused3

:welcome: I find that I'm always using lots of exclamation points when I write to other people, especially in TRs. I just get so excited talking about WDW!!! :jumping3: :rotfl2:

I've decided to use my Twitter account which has basically been sitting around getting dusty for the past 2 years. I created the account so I could follow a few accounts that interested me but I never really used it to send my own tweets. I pretty much just cleared out all of my old follows/followers since I really haven't used the account and my brother just gave me a quick lesson on using it and it's so fun and easy! I'm thinking it could be a lot of fun to tweet live during my trip and maybe even answer questions for people on the DIS. :thumbsup2

Does that interest anyone who has been reading along? If so, follow me @heathsf. If it doesn't catch on, maybe I won't do it after all. We'll see!!!!

Day 2 - August 21

It's going to be another very early morning (although not as early as yesterday). Today we are doing the Around the World at Epcot Segway Tour! I really wanted the 7:45 tour but they don't have them that early during August. The earliest time available was 8:30 and we need to be at Guest Relations at 8:15. I've never done any behind the scenes tour or any kind of extra add-on like this so I'm super excited. I've also never had an early morning ADR in a park so I've never entered an empty park before opening! I think this is going to be especially cool for BF who has never been in Epcot ever! The tour lasts 2 hours so it will be 10:30 when we finish. The only thing about this that has been bothering me a little bit, is that we'll be late getting FP for Soarin' and Test Track! I know the park will only have been open for an hour and a half and we'll have no problems getting FP for both within 2 hours, but it's bothering me that we'll be missing getting one of the first FP! (I sound crazy, don't I?) I know the segway tour is going to be awesome and totally worth it, and I keep telling myself I need to get over this.

So anyway, after the tour we'll explore Future World. BF is looking forward to Mission Space so we'll try to do that ASAP (and definitely before lunch). I also really enjoy Spaceship Earth and Living with the Land. BF has heard the music from Journey into Imagination and he is NOT looking forward to that one. But since it's so short and there's rarely a line, he'll be trying it :lmao:

We have a lunch ADR at Le Cellier at 12:20 which I can't wait for! It will be my first time eating there and I just hope I save enough room for dinner at San Angel Inn which is six hours later...

I think returning to the hotel for a nap/swim/relaxing may be a good idea after lunch. Especially if we're going to attempt EMH at MK tonight from 11pm - 2am! So my plan is to go back to POP for a while, come back to Epcot before dinner so we can use FP that weren't used earlier and maybe get in a few more rides. Maybe we'll be able to grab a FP for Maelstrom that we can use after dinner. Perhaps we can ride Gran Fiesta Tour before eating. Or after. Either one works for me :goodvibes

Our dinner ADR is at San Angel Inn at 6:30. We'll stay for Illuminations (which I LOVE!) I have three different plans for leaving Epcot though:

Plan #1: We could look for an Illuminations viewing spot with an easy exit to the front because I'm expecting a LOT of people will have the idea of taking the monorail over to MK for EMH. If we're one of the first out, we may even make it there before Wishes starts. However, do we really want to do that? MK will be probably be packed already due to EMH and we'll have seen Wishes the night before. We'll probably be stuck at the back of Main Street and then there will be a huge exodus after Wishes that we'd be stuck in the middle of.

Plan #2: Watch Illuminations from the best spot we can find and hang back after it's over to let the masses exit in front of us. We can take our time exploring as we exit and just enjoy the emptying park. I know we only have an hour before the monorail will stop running though. By the time we get to MK, Wishes will have ended and many people will have exited the park. MK will still be crowded during the beginning of EMH anyway. If we decide to go, I'd like to make it until the very end so we can really enjoy low crowds and short waits.

Plan #3: Similar to plan #1, but instead of racing for the monorail, race for a bus back to POP and go to sleep. This may mean that we didn't get that nap in the afternoon and we're just too tired or not interested in EMH. In this case, we'll go to MK for RD in the morning.

Thoughts???

Day 2 sounds great! I can't wait to hear all about the segway tour. That is on my list of must do's at some point (clearly, I have a while to wait before the boys are old enough for that :rotfl: ) And I am sure that you will still be able to do Soarin and Test Track! Only a Dis-er would consider 90 minutes after park opening to be late! :lmao:
In my opinion, I would do Plan #2 for leaving Epcot/going to MK. It sounds like the least stressful option! :thumbsup2

Okay, your conversation with DBF was HILARIOUS! Especially..

Me: Okay, what are you most looking forward to on this trip?

BF: You not asking me these questions anymore.

:rotfl: That's EXACTLY something my DH would say! :lmao: His 'Canadian Cellar' was cute too!

I'm loving your plans for the first day. I've heard great things about CHH so hopefully he'll choose that one! And I agree with you about Epcot being the place that makes you 'FEEL' like you're at the World vs The MK. Maybe it's because Epcot is my all time FAV park. Same with DH.

What's Easy WDW? It has touring plans as well? I've never heard of that one before.

As for your second day, I have to go with Plan #2.

This had me DYING! :rotfl:

"BF has heard the music from Journey into Imagination and he is NOT looking forward to that one. But since it's so short and there's rarely a line, he'll be trying it"

The song is just so annoying, I had to post some lyrics here for you!

"Imagination
Imagination
A dream can be a dream come true
With just that spark
In me and you!"
:lmao:

I like your plans for day 1 :) I give you props for doing all of that though! On arrival days I definetely like to just hang around the resort and do not like to rush out to a park (I know, it is rare to find someone like me on the DIS:laughing:)

Day 2 sounds great too:goodvibes I LOVE EPCOT. I hope you enjoy yuour lunch. Ive never eaten there but I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Personally, I would find a good spot to watch Illuminations and then after it take your time leaving and head back to your hotel.

I'm now following you on Twitter! (@NutHouseShannon)

The segway tour sounds like SO. MUCH. FUN. And how cool to get in the park early... never done that, so I'll have to keep that in mind for future trips!

If you decide to hop to MK for EMH, I'd go with option #2. Especially since you will have already seen Wishes the night before, it doesn't sound like there's any need for you to be in a hurry to get over to MK.

I just joined! And laughed my butt off reading your interview, oops I mean conversation points with your BF. HILARIOUS. I feel very lucky, my dh is a disney fan, however he is NOT the planning type like I am. Can't wait to hear your plans for the rest of your trip but more so the results when you return:)

Only a Dis-er would consider 90 minutes after park opening to be late!

This made me laugh first of all because it's so funny and second of all because it's equally true and ridiculous! :rotfl2:

I couldn't wait another day to go to the parks. I just get too excited to contain myself. I'd rather be exhausted at the end of the day than skip a day at the parks! :yay:

I don't see you following me. I'm not sure if there are privacy preferences involved in that but I just wanted to let you know. I'm glad you want to follow along though! :goodvibes

We're supposed to have thunderstorms all week but I'm not too stressed about it yet. At least it's not SNOW!
