Due to the ridiculously long lapse in writing, I am going to go ahead and start with a recap here.
Last I left off, every bus to the Magic Kingdom neglected to stop at the Hospitality House, leaving an angry mob, who spent the morning complaining to CMs, one another and generally to whomever would listen
Children were milling about, pulling flowers from the garden near the benches, and parents were subtly or not, jockeying for position planning ahead for the intended bus, to herald them off the the Magic Kingdom. We were unphased, as it was the first sunny day and it was now above 60, which when you are from the artic where 20 below is a normal occurrence in February, is like the tropics, well practically. And our children were beautifully behaved and had not wet their pants, so we were happy. Even if the bus came after we waited an hour and fifteen minutes, and little Jack refused to drop trow at the Magic Kingdom prior to our entering and spent 45 minutes there screaming at the top of his lungs and undoubtedly potentially threatening the healthy functioning of his bladder. A policeman was beckoned, no one was arrested, and we decided to heed the obvious omens and chuck our plans for a day at the Kingdom, finally riding Splash.
We ended up back at OKW, our resort, boogied to some groovy tunes, and met up with Grammy J, the mother in law, whom I spent years, courting so as to please my husband and maximize the quality of my childrens relationships with his side of the family
.
As it turned out, it was a good thing, that it had been cold and inhospitable up to now. As it happened, the configuration of the water play at this resort is not conducive to safely watching three young children under the age of 6. Just ask the Meanest Mother in the World, shell tell you. Parents, you need the one to one ratio if you are attempting to frolic like a dolphin with your wee ones. 1.5 to one will not do. Joyfully, a brand new water castle slide was added to the landscape at the main pool this year. It is fun indeed. However, it virtually blocks the view of the baby pool, and sand playground. It is nearly impossible, to watch your Lilliputians, if one is in the kiddie pool, one is in the hot tub, and one is in the big pool, going down the slide or swimming
.and there is a lighthouse sauna, which unfortunately was never on
but Jack nonetheless was insistent that it made a really cool clubhouse.
We kept Grammy Js hand full with a glass of wine, and she watched young Jack, who for some reason has an aversion to deep water, even in the tub at home it can not go above his belly button. So he was splashing in the kiddie pool with other tots. Grammy would need to occasionally chase him to the lighthouse or the playground. Oddly, no one cared that the children, some of whom must have been 5, were taking the buckets from their peanut butter and jelly lunches, filling them with sand, and tossing them in the pool. The sand was okay. It was the floating bread with peanutspread that made me want to gag. No, made me gag, and French fries. There were French fries floating in the kiddie pool too. And a shirt and towel
whose they were I still cannot say. Why did my child care not about the offal afloat in this lovely spa? Have I failed to raise him in a dignified way? All I can say is I am grateful there were no tootsie rolls dispensed in the lunch pails. Also I really, really have come to believe that swimmpers do not guard against e coli
How, two of the parents could bring themselves to sit in that pool, I cannot even try to comprehend. So I will admit, I quickly relegated the watching of my youngest to someone other than myself, as I was very close to vommiting several times. I did feel badly that I had pawned the task of attending to this particular body of water to Grammy, however, as the tots seemed intent on removing all the water from this now cesspool, and my childrens beloved grandmother was quickly, less than dry. Enter more chardonnay and a towel
Carson has learned to swim. He, as many active children do, has boundless energy. DJ took on keeping up with him, and they joined in lots of activities with the other kids playing ball, racing and all the things kids do in the pool. I would look over and see how my eldest child had come so far, since the first day he came to us. He was joyful, exuberant and having so much fun with his new poolmates and fellow porpoises....
Me? I got the best job of all. I got my girl for the afternoon. Sky loves hot tubs. So does Mommy. Hot water? I am there. Funny how I always end up in hot water
Anyway, she and I lounged in the giant hot tubby with some neat moms and dads. One dad even bought me a cocktail. Now that was just nice. He just brought it to me and said, This may be presumptuous, but would you like this? Say no more! I was thrilled as punch, except it wasnt. It was a Vodka and OJ. Hospitality? Even the guests had it at OKW. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. This is the life. I got the good job on this day, Valentines day. Yup, I did.
Sky is a thrill seeker, like her mama, a danger ranger on all fronts. She was enthralled with the Sandcastle. And my tough job, was to follow her up and down it for hours. Darn, how awful life could be
..unfortunately at one point she made friends
..with a boy, who I calculated to be about 7. He was beautiful and exuberant and very polite. He was also enthralled with my little pixie. How could he not be? And how too, could she not be? I spanned out about 10 years from now, and for a moment frowned. What am I going to do? My beautiful daughter loves boys, and they love her. How, oh how will I keep her safe? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. (no, not you leftie) I need to change that album, fastpass back to the present
..
It was an awesome afternoon in the sun, truly. Save a day of park passes. Sleep in and go to the pools at OKW. Just remember, if you have more than 2, and they are under 6, make sure you get the ratio up to one to one, nothing less will do, unless you leave the Ritalin at home that day
.yours.
