how to keep luggage closed

What about for carry on luggage? Do they search those or do they just go through the xray machine? can I put a lock on it or something like you all are talking about to be sure the zippers don't come open?

I use key rings to keep my luggage closed. Once the zippers are together, just slip a key ring through. Works great!

Just use a plain twist tie which hold the zipper together and keeps it from spredding open. Easy and cheap to throw a few extras in your bag in case you need them. I have travelled to 5 continents and over 2 dozen countries this way and have never had anything stolen from my bags.
I also use the space saver bags both to avoid wrinkles and to keep inspectors from actually fingering my clothes.
