We're tenting and flying, so no car to store things in, and no hard-sided cooler. Any tips for keeping food from critters?

Meg

;)

I'm just teasin' ya. If you were going to be there when we are and if we were going to be cooking, I'd be honored to have you over for dinner, but only if you promise to bring the kungaloosh.

OH! That reminds me, I can't get on that plane without knowing what exactly kungaloosh is made of.

1/4 cup Baileys strawberry daiquiri mix
1/4 cup Capt Morgan's spiced rum
1/4 cup raspberry liquer or schnapps
1/4 cup orange juice.

put in blender with enough ice to make slushy.

MMM. I'd have to skip the Schnapps. Schnapps and I have a really tumultuous history.

I'd use one of these on the critters, not Ft. Wildnerness guy.

Bury it or hang it from the trees. Actually we have a bear sack we carry when backpacking and we suspend food from a tree with rope. That's extreme but effective. Actually some places require special bear barrels to keep bears out. Watch out for the otters though, they can be tricky!

You are such a dolt. How is she going to fit that in the overhead bin on an aeroplane?

These are great for bears, but for coons and squirrels, isn't it simlar to saying, "here you go little friends. I will lift it to you":rotfl: :rotfl:

Last time we went, the only critters we saw were lizards. What critters are an issue?

Reminds me of a boy scout camping trip when the racoons got into our food. We were camping on a beach in S.C. One of the boys was very insulted at the racoonal activity and decided to set a trap. He found an old garbage can with no bottom, dug a pit in the sand and stuck the can down into it up to the rim. He then bated the trap with hamburger meat and waited with a box. Sure enough, the critter came and fell into the hole. He slapped the box on top of the hole and sat on it. The next thing we knew, the kid and the box went flying and the racoon jumped out of the hole and wandered off as if nothing had happened.

Dangling your food in a heavy bag like a duffle should work fine. :)

I haven't tent camped but we do leave food in a rubber maid tub on the picnic table and it has yet to be bothered , and you can also check it though as baggage if you put bungy cords around it so the lid doesn't come off. That's one thought.

Keep the food locked up and seal tight in the coolers. It is okay to leave the Beer out in a cooler icing down. The critters won't mess with the Beer, except for maybe the Loopers. Loopers find it very hard to turn down free Beer...expecially COLD, free Beer!:thumbsup2

Honestly though, I do not think you have too much to worry about unless you leave food out in the open. Only critters we usually see are Rabbits, squirrels, deer, Turkey and the ocasional Otter and Gator and Snake.:scared1:

The peacocks steal beer all the time and the otters are a bunch of boozers!

How about ordering an Owner's Locker? That would be the perfect solution!! They're one of our DIS sponsors: www.ownerslocker.com

I actually know someone who uses this. He loves it! He leaves stuff there from trip to trip.
