How to handle luggage?

I would like to do a split stay for April/May timeframe. Probably WDW first and then US. Is it better to check out of the WDW hotel, store the luggage at the WDW hotel for the day and then go to US that night? Or is it better to check out of the WDW hotel in the morning and go to the US hotel (i.e will they store my luggage for the day because I'm sure the room won't be ready yet)?

i like split stays the best as it works well for me.

i can enjoy all that a theme park and resort has to offer if i spend time at each one for quite a few days in a row.

i do the motherland stay first, then relocate to the darkside hotels.

after that, it's the airport for the return home.

i prefer staying onsite at the two resorts better than day trips.
i want to have all my belongings with me at the hotel where i am staying.
it's less confusing for me.

The Universal/Loews hotels will keep your bags for you, absolutely. Thoroughly checkout and leave the WDW resort and make the Universal resort your new temporary home. While I personally have never found huge backups on I-4 that others have talked about, why get on that highway twice when you don't have to? Just take your stuff. They have Bell Services, too. :)
