We have an 8:40am reservation for breakfast at Chef Mickeys. :mickeyjum

How do we get from our resort (Port Orleans French Quarter) to Chef Mickeys?

What time should we leave our resort to get there on time?

There was a 7:50am reservation open, but I was afraid the busses wouldn't be running and we'd really be stuck for transportation to the Contemporary. However, I was considering taking this reservation instead so we would have more time in the park, what do you think?

Thank you!

the fastest way is to get on a bus to the MK and either walk across or hop on the resort monorail. give yourself at least 45 mins.

We were at POR last week and had a breakfast ADR at Chef Mickey's. We took the MK bus to the park and then the monorail to the Contemporary. The MK had opened at 8 for Magical Beginnings. Our ADR was at 9:20 and we were at the bus stop for 8:15. We didn't wait too long for the bus and were at MK early enough to run in, head to Fantasyland, ride Peter Pan's Flight (my 3 year olds favorite) and get to the Contemporary on time. From all that I have read, if you have an early morning ADR and are at the bus stop an hour before, you will make it. We had an 8:00 ADR for Donald's one morning. We were at the stop by 7:00 but it took a long time for an AK bus to come. We did make it to AK by 8 and were just a few minutes late to the restaurant but were seated almost immediately. This was on a morning that AK was opening at 9. HTH!

Do we need to go IN Magic Kingdom park first to get on the monorail?

This is a stupid question, but are you saying you are allowed to enter MK, leave and then come back?

We only have base tickets (non-park hoppers) so I'm really worried about not being able to get back into the park if we leave.

You do not need to go into the park to get on the monorail. Even without park hopper tickets, you can leave a park and re-enter the same park that day.

The bus stop has a sign that the buses start running 45 minutes prior to park opening. This is not correct. We talked to a bus driver who told us that they start the MK buses around 6:00 am all mornings. We had an 8:00 am ADR at Crystal Palace on a non-EMH morning.

We just returned from POFQ 2 weeks ago and I would allow at least 1 hour 15 mins to get to MK by bus. You never know if there will be a hold up and also when you catch the monorail, it may stop. Ours did and we waited on the track for at least 10-15 minutes.

No, you do not have to enter MK to enter onto the monorail. Once you arrive at the MK bus depot, exit and walk toward MK and you will head to the left pathway which will take you to the monorail entrance. Also, to answer your question about leaving MK without having a park hopper. Yes, you may do so, but must have your hand stamped before leaving.

We always allowed 1 1/2 hrs to get to any dining reservations, and we didn't hesitate to check in early before our schedule dining time. We usually were seated in 10 minutes.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM if you have any other questions.

OMG!!! 1.5 hours early!! I don't know if I should reschedule or not, that is really early for us, especially since we aren't morning people.

Are the busses really that slow/bad at POFQ? :worried:

1.5 hours is a bit excessive. We did it twice 2 weeks ago, once to Chef Mickeys and once to the Grand Floridian and it honestly took us less than a half hour each trip. Keep the phone number of CM handy in case you have any delays, maybe they can keep your ressie for a little while.

Also, I don't know about having to get a hand stamp. We just used our tickets again to re-enter.

no need to even take the monorail from MK. There is a path way from MK to the Contemp. resort. The walk is no more than 5-10 minutes. You enter the hotel and take the elevator up.

I completely agree with Sue. We always walk over to CM, because unless you're there right when the monorail is ready to depart, it can take longer than walking. It's not a bad walk at all, and you don't have to worry about the monorail breaking down. :thumbsup2

You also could take a cab. Our last trip we had dinner at both AKL and WL, and it cost us no more than $15 for a one way. If you're really worried about time and have the extra $$ to spare, it may be worth considering.

I have the whole "How to get to Chef Mickey's" dilemma too. Only I wanted to park at Epcot because that's my park choice of the day. However my ADR is for 7:30am. The monorail isn't running that early (or so I've been told).
By the way "HTH" translates to "Hope that helps"

We have successfully made it to a 7 am breakfast at Chef Mickey's on more than one occassion. I would be at the Magic Kingdom bus stop about 45 minutes before your ADR time & let the bus driver know that you have a breakfast at Chef Mickey's. The bus driver will normally take you right to the Contemporary & drop you off, especially if it is before the park opens.

This information doesn't seem to be well-known by the cast members when you call to make your breakfast reservations, but we've done this several times for breakfasts at Chef Mickey's & 'Ohana. If the bus driver can't take you directly there, get off at the Magic Kingdom & walk the 5 minute path to the Contemporary - much quicker than waiting on a monorail.

Have a great trip!!! :)

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think we'll most likely take the bus to MK and then walk the path to the Contemporary Resort. I tend to stress myself out in situations like these, and I'd rather walk than have to wait for a monorail and worry about it being over-crowded and not getting on or it breaking down. Thanks for the help!

I've never driven to Disney so I'm not of much help, but can you drive to Chef Mickeys and then back over to Epcot?

Oh and thanks for the help on decoding HTH!

When boarding the MK bus at the POR, tell the bus driver you're going to Chef Mickey's and he will likely drop you off.

Your Welcome  Yes I can drive to Chef Mickey's and then back to Epcot, which is what I think I'll have to do. That's ok though. It's my family's first character meal so it's all good!!!

I'll be sure to mention it to the bus driver...hopefully he'll be nice enough to do that for us!
