How to get the room you want?

I am wondering what is the best way to get the room you want? I have tried the online requests when checking in early and by calling in but both times really didn't get what I wanted. They did try to get it close, but I am wondering is there anyway to raise those chances? We are staying at the All Star Music Resort in March in a family suite. We want a pool view in the calypso building more than anything what is the best way to get that?

There is no guaranteed way to get a particular room assignment, particularly when the room is in a large booking class. It depends on availability for check-in date, the room assignor, other requests, check-in time, etc. Roughly 36 of the 216 Music Family Suites have the view you are hoping for.

In some ways, it would be better if Disney didn't allow room requests, because a lot of people get their hopes up with them.

Whether or not you get your request really depends on how many rooms there are that meet the criteria you've requested, and how many guests happen to be checking out of those rooms on your arrival date. Both things that are out of your control. The method of requesting doesn't matter much, either. No matter how you make the request, it ends up in the same place: on your record in the reservation system.

The only other method you can try is to fax in your request.
None of them will do more than another, unfortunately. I would actually just work on accepting what you do get, in case you don't get the request. So you aren't too disappointed.
Another option, in case you haven't tried, or didn't know, you can always ask to change rooms if you don't get what you want. Maybe they can move you, maybe they can't. You can always ask.

OP it is just luck of the draw. Our first request is room available early (which we have gotten on about 6 of 10 our visits ). Our other request is a corner room just because it makes the room brighter. We have gotten that 3 of the 10 . A lot depends on how many rooms are switching over that day. We just book the room category we want and if our extra requests come through it is just icing on the cake.

At All Star Music Calypso is considered preferred rooms. Did you request/pay for perferred room when you booked?

For my trip this past October I used the room request form on Touring Plans . com. I ended up in a room only 2 doors down from the one I picked.

It truly is best to not get so attached to getting a specific room or location. They simply cannot meet every request they get.

The other option is to make requests and/or fax, but when you check in, politely ask if your room requests were met, and if the answer is "no," just ask, "Well, are there any rooms available that meet my requests?" You may be told (as we were on our most recent stay at BC) that the room you want is available, but not clean yet, and are you willing to wait for it? If you're willing to wait, you could luck out with the room you want. I'm guessing that the resort's goal is to get people in rooms ASAP, and the exact room you want simply may not be clean. On our most recent trip...we waited, and got exactly what we requested. This will of course depend on the staff member. At BC, the LOVELY lady behind the desk (M.L. I believe) assigned us a room that wasn't quite what we wanted, and I asked if there were any rooms..........(blah blah)....and she poked around on her computer, and said "Yes, there's one, but it's not clean...if you're willing to wait, I'll put you in that room." We were delighted. Be aware though that another somewhat rude CM with an iPad kept approaching us in the lobby and asking if we needed any help. She eventually found out that we were waiting for a certain room and tried relentlessly to get us to just take the first room we were given. If this happens to you, be strong but polite and say, "No think you, we're waiting for the room currently assigned to us. Please don't change it, we're really excited about it!" This was all we could to to keep the room we really wanted!

I upgraded to a pool view room at the AKL to guarantee I got a decent view that was not a mile long hike from the lobby. I didn't want to chance it with a standard view room.

Laugh if you must, but I SNAIL MAIL my requests and get them met every time!

My theory is my snail mail really STANDS out and the Room Assignor is so "impresed" I took the time to snail mail that they bend over backwards to fill my requests.:)

At AKL and many other resorts the "view" only means which direction your room faces, not that you necessarily have that view.

You stand a good chance but Touring Plans does show that Pool View includes all rooms to the end on the pool side (pink).

Also this was my Pool View room ... no view of the pool. But we were close to the lobby.

OP, everyone has given you good advice. You utilize bookable category to narrow what you get, you make requests (sometimes less is more) and keep your fingers crossed. Also the earlier you arrive, the better the chance they could move you. If it were me I would likely request Pool View only, this would put you in Calypso.

The only problem I see is that Calypso is a preferred room(we have stayed there 29 times) to get a Calypso the OP has to upgrade unless OP has already requested and paid for a preferred room.

I am not sure you can book Family Suite as preferred. I think Family Suite is the category in this case, with a 50-50 shot at Calypso. The issue is only a portion of those rooms are pool view.

She booked a suite.

That's awful. That is no pool view. Did you say anything to management?

Like others have said it's pretty much luck of the draw. If there are only x number of rooms that meet that criteria, and assuming others may also make similar requests, the room needs to be available and ready in order to be assigned. I had a good run of getting my requests most of the time up until this past year or so, but even then I ask at the desk if there is any chance I can get something closer to what I requested and they have been able to move our room. But there were far more room options for what we were looking to get than what it sounds like OP is hoping for.
