Help!!!

You know, there are days when I think DD 15 1/2 has really got her act together and then she goes and does something kind of "odd" and I just shake my head.:confused3

Last night as I was doing my usual stuff around the house, I started getting a strong whiff of very tacky perfume. It was very strong in certain areas of the house. Now, I HATE perfume and don't wear it--guess I'm kind of sensitive to the strong smell of it--but DD got some for Christmas and she will use it occasionally.

But this was REALLY strong and DD was just sitting around the house. I finally ask her: "Did you use perfume or something?" She says to me "Yeah, I did. I was sitting here and I noticed that my feet kind of stunk so I went into my room and sprayed perfume all over them.":scared1: Honestly, right now I'm laughing over this because it's so ridiculous. I mean WHY would anyone do this???

Well, apparently she sprayed it all over her feet and then decided to walk into my bedroom and sit and watch TV. I think the perfume must be all over and imbedded into my area rug (which cannot be washed).

I opened a window last night (despite frigid temps), ran the fan, and sprayed some odorless Oust, but NOTHING would get rid of this tenacious smell.

In fact, the smell was so strong it literally kept me up all night and my eyes were kind of itchy this morning. When I was getting ready for work the smell was still REALLY strong in my bedroom.

Any ideas for getting rid of this smell. I'm not even *sure* it's the rug. I'm hoping I will go home today and it will have disappeared. I know I could probably take the rug outside but it is large and, today at least, we've got a small bit of snow everywhere so I don't even have a place to lay it out.

How about lighting a match Putting some white vinegar in a bowll to take away the scent? I don'tknow if that would only take the smell away for a short time. Pretty soon your nose will just get used to it and you won't smell the perfume anymore. You could also sprinkle your carpet with some of that odor powder and vacuum it up.

Thanks, I'll have to try the vacuum when I get home. The Oust removed the smell for about 10 minutes and then it came back with a vengeance.

It's a really awful perfume too. Probably would have been better if it was a nicer brand.

I don't have any advice, Christine, but the thought of your DD spraying perfume on her stinky feet has me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: . Don't take a shower and wash your stinky feet or anything, just mask the scent with tacky perfume!

A former co-worker loved perfume, and I guess she wanted us all to love it, too, because she bathed in it every day. It was usually a very spicy scent, which stunk to high heaven as far as I was concerned. People just don't realize that perfume is meant to be intimate, shared with people you get close to. It's not something to be shared with the entire plantet!

That had me cracking up too! :rotfl: I heard that the best way to apply perfume is to spray it into the air and walk into it. I do that now and it's sooo much more subtle. No one chokes that way. ;)

I keep cracking up over it too. When I typed out this thread, I just kind of laughed out loud when I thought about it.

The strange thing is, she takes a shower every night and she did this about 1 hour before her shower time.

I would think you need something that absorbs odor and that will help eliminate it.

Coffee grounds will do that--I had a smell in my van once and just put in an open can of grounds. Problem solved.

Coffee beans is what they use at the perfume counter when you are sampling different scents.

I'm allergic to most perfumes (Those that are floral scents) and the coffee bean thing is the best thing I had ever learned. It immediately gets the scent out of your nose....so it will work in the bedroom. Just be careful in placement so that you don't have a big mess from an accidental spill.

ETA: You will have to toss out the coffee once the smell is gone. No way will that be a coffee you want to drink.

I was going to suggest coffee grounds also. Sprinkle it onto the carpet, and let it sit a bit then vacuum up.

Baking soda is also an odor neutralizer. Do the same thing, sprinkle onto the carpet, let it sit an hour or so, and vacuum it up.

Then throw away the vacuum bag or clean the filter, or it will smell every time you vacuun, lol.

So, either beans or grounds are okay? I don't have any whole beans at home. DH just got back from his ski trip last night so I should have some grounds available when I get home. It's okay if coffee has been brewed already--will it work or must they be fresh?

Fresh/unused coffee grounds will do the trick, with used there's no fresh coffee smell/oils to disperse into the air. Barring that could you just stick the rug in your DD's room until the smell goes away?

agnes!

Yeah, I could--she doesn't mind the smell. I just want to throw the darn rug out into the backyard. The smell is in most of the house, but heavily concentrated in my room. I will probably wash the floors too. We have all hardwood and I'm betting that the residue is all over it after she walked out of her bedroom with her wet, perfumed feet.

Yes--they just use beans at the perfume counter b/c it is less messy of course.

If you have a coffee filter--just pour a cupful into that and set in the room somewhere....if it is really strong set up a couple.

I wouldn't put it in the carpet though--the risk of a staining/discoloring is too high and let's just say my hubby would kill me if I tried that.:rolleyes1

It will absorb the odors.

reminds me of a dave attel joke. about the scented sprays or candles for the powder room...
....now it smells like lemon and A**! hehehehheee

Wow great ideas. We have an engineering/surveying work van and the guys use it daily and it gets so dirty...from all their outside work to their eating in the van....maybe an open can of coffee will help with the smell. :thumbsup2

And Christine: Do you think your DD is a little young for perfume, if she is going to spray it all over her feet?? :scared1:

Well, apparently, she is.:rotfl:

You would think that being almost 16 years old, she would be old enough to know how to use it. But again, she sometimes does these weird, odd things.

Well at the very least the perfume may not have been all that expensive to begin with and yet, she is a teen and I had two ONCE (24&21 boys)....so they do sometimes ODD THINGS!!! :rotfl: ...:rotfl:

Ya know...maybe your daughter has hit on something...

Revelon Sole, the new parfum for tootsies?

Or howz about Chanel #10 Toes?
