How to get the best discounts?

I am going to WDW in September and wondering how to get the best hotel rates. I will book a package and stay onsite.

I don't go often enough to buy an AP. Who has the best rates? AAA? When do rates normally drop? Are you better off booking with Disney direct?

I dont know about the AAA discounts but...

Even if you arent going often if you will be there more than a couple of days and staying at a moderate or delux hotel the ap will save you some money - if you book separately. So that depends on if you are going to want that dining plan. Considering getting a package with dining means you will pay rack rate for the hotel, and cant get discounted tickets, it really doesnt save you any money. Ap ends up costing you about an extra $200 (over a 7 day single park pass to get a regular ap so less than that if you were already figuring in the hopper pass, not sure about the cost for the premiums, they are about 120 dolars more than the reg ap i think). You can always check when the discounts come out to see what you can get, if you like it,book the hotel at the ap rate then purchase one ap. Right now the ap discounts were $50 off mods and $100 off delux. So it only took 4 nights at a mod or 2 at a delux to make up the price difference, and you would only need the ap for one person the rest could get the regular tickets.
