Just bought my DS a white swim suit and matching white rash guard top. He loves it because it has a pirate skull on it. I used Coppertone Sport Spray and it left a yellow stain around the neck and legs. I tried Shout, Spray N Wash, Tide with Bleach, Rit dye whitener and Zout. Nothing worked. Does anyone have a trick to get out sunscreen stains?

Have had this happen before. Put Dawn dish detergent on it (or any brand that specializes in grease) and leave it on for 24 hours. Then, put washing machine on smallest load possible and put a normal amount of Tide or Clorox 2 in it, add the stained items and let soak for at least 2 hours. The longer it soaks, the better the stain comes out. I wouldn't do for more than 24 hours though because starts to smell funky. I have gotten everything out doing this, including baby yak that had been washed, dried and stored for 5 years.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it and report back.

It worked worked!!!! I did just what you said and it worked. Just need to really really rinse out the dish soap because it suds up in the washer. But the suit looks great. thanks so much for the tip!!!:yay:

thank-you for the advice. My kids white shirts have the yellow marks too.

You're welcome!! I don't DO stains and consider it personal if I can't get one out. GRRR! HAHAHAHA!

I used to take Clorox 2 and rub it directly on stain and let it sit until I did the rest of the load and that worked great-until a friend squirted ketchup on a brand new tshirt of mine. Put the Clorox 2 on it, let it set, washed it a few days later. Stain came out. Wore shirt somewhere where there was a black light and it had bleached the pigment out of that whole stain area!! Was soooo funny, don't know if it was a mix of ketchup and Clorox 2 or what, but moved on to Tide after that!!

(PS-to clarify, in normal light the shirt looked like an orange tshirt. In the black light, where there had been ketchup and Clorox 2, it was WHITE. SOOO funny!)

Thanks for the wonderful tip! It came in handy this week as I was trying to get the yellow from sunscreen out of my swimsuit! And the day I had gotten my swimsuit all taken care of, my dear sweet 1 year old got desitin EVERYWHERE! All over his crib everything. So I used these steps figuring it couldn't hurt....and I am happy to say it came out of everything. Thank you so much you saved my life this week!

I'm going to try this too. Do you wet it at all when you put the Dawn on or just put it on dry clothes and rub in? Do you "scrub" it at all before you put in the washer (again wet it or just keep it dry until it goes in washer with Clorox?)

What temperature of water do you use? Hot, warm, or cold? Thanks in advance!

I put it on dry and don't scrub it in.

Soak in lemon juice! I did this with our swimsuits this year and it worked beautifully!
