Hey all,

I have looked through most of the threads about VMK on DIS, and I have yet to see a thread dealing with how to get the maximum points on pirates. I have seen a thread discussing how the points are calculated for the high scores board, but nothing about strategies to get enough points to make it on the board in the first place. If anyone has answers, please advise! I did notice that distance from the ship fired on seems to increase the point value. Pirates is my favorite game due to the teamwork and the fact that it changes each time you play (unlike the other vmk games which can be memorized). I only wish it was worth more credits!

A few other questions that I haven't seen addressed:
1) What is the highest amount of points you have received for a single cannonball hit?
2) Do you even get anything for being a high scorer? (in other words, is it worth my while?) :o)
3) Any of you out there need to earn your pirates pins? I run from fairly good (on my bad rounds, lol) to awesome (on my best rounds) and like to help others get their game rewards! Anyone interested, let me know.

Hey, Sundowner!
I totally suck at ALL of the games in VMK! LOL I can't seem to cordinate my left hand with my right. I've only gotten the silver level pin on Fireworks-once, not much more than 10,000 points on the Jungle Cruise and never past the second fight on Pirates! :rotfl: Told ya I suck. I think part of the problem may be that my desk is so small. Maybe I need to move the keyboard to the left more? I really want some of the magic pins.

One of the nice things about pirates, is that an experienced player and a complete novice can team up against 2 computer players, and the humans will always win. It's a great way to help out other people.

So, pirates is the easiest game for a "good" player to help out another player. Obviously this is not possible with the single-player Jungle Cruise, and not even really with Fireworks, where the best the "good" player can do is to make sure s/he comes in first, while the "helped" player still needs to score 240k.

I love to play Pirates. I have earned probably about 2000 points pretty easy at 15 points at a time. Im moderate in the good department. I can score about 10,000 and my highest is about 18,000. I play any level now but can do level 3 best.

You do want to be with someone how is good, but the score is the average of the two of you so playing with 2 is better than playing 4 if you dont have 3 good players. I dont know how many points per shot. '

The secret is to not let them sit sideways on you but if they do shoot like heack because at leats if they take you out you have lots of points and help the team average. Then double click and you blw up. Good thing is if you have a pirate near by you can sometimes take them out too in that explosion (They can take you out too thought the same way) I like to blow up because my team has an easier change getting around with me gone when I Im not in the way.

Another secret is if your with a bunch of evenly matched players dont hog the bullets and health and shooting. If they go by average its best to all have siiolar scores. If Im near a bullet and dont really need it but see a team mate coming at it I let him have it so we can work together.

Win level 1 10 times to get to Level 2
Win Level 2 10 times to get to Level 3
Win level 3 I htink it was actually 15 times to get the pin to make you invisible.

After that you play for points alone. BUt like I said I have thousands and it rarely takes over a minute to win my points when I play with other good players.

I like to go to lower levels to help others get to higher levels. (Win their 10 times to advance) But im not as good in Level 1 and 2 as I am in level 3. I guess I play that level more.

Maybe others know the points? I think dead on hits are worth some and shotting and hitting distance is worth something. I never came in high scores so I have no clue about it.

One last thing I use to shoot by double clicking my mouse. BAD IDEA!! USe the mouse to move around and use the arrow keys to aim and shoot. I like to pre aim before I even get to where Im going so I can orient myself which way the bullets will go. I aim with one click and shoot with 2

Thank you Barb for the help.....I haven't got past level 1 yet, but, I would love the invisibility!
(course I would love the fireworks too, but, I'm even worse at that game :sad2: )
I wish there were more games....

I am terrible at Fireworks and jungle cruise too,. I got better at Pirates only because I wanted enough points to get the space suit that one weekend. I now play so often I got better. :-)

If you see me walking around VMK. Say hi, and I would be happy to help you in your quest for the invisibility pin. pirate:

So do you get anything for getting placed on top scores other than recognition? I know you get invisibility pin for number of games one, but what about high scorer? anything extra? :maleficen

gblanstom helped me to get to level 3 and now I am a fantastic player! lol

I will also help you to get to next level, just come and see me in Central Plaza.

The link you get with the pin is for a glow in the dark VMK bracelet. :cool1:

Arg Matey, ye be be one fine pirate captain now. Sending those pirates to Davey Jones locker. :)

One thing everyone might want to try is a big Dis game. Where eight players join in one game and one team lets the other team blow them up. This will let you win and possibly get on the high score list. Don't know if this is the best idea, but I have wanted to try it. Once one team wins (lets say red) the other team (blue) can destroy the red team in another game. I think this would work. That way there is no risk of getting points deducted and everyone wins. What do you guys think?

Hi Sundowner76,

This is a good thread. Regarding high scores and what they pay, things may have changed in the past two weeks, but high scores pay 35 credits (in addition to the 15 you might have earned for winning the game). Note that since the "Celebration weekend," the High Scores are not from each day but since that weekend. VMK no longer clears the scores everynight (in any game as far as I've seen). Thus, it is increasingly difficult to gain a place on the high scores board and the board has been relatively static since that weekend. Even the best players are having a hard time beating their own best scores. And mathematically there are only so many points that can be earned in a game.

The high scores all come from beating a four person team (more opponents means more points to score). It also means that your teammates must not score so many points. An optimum situation is to have a team of four with yourself and three newbies. If they die rather quickly and-- important -- stay in the game all three rounds, then you will have a chance to wipe out the pirates yourself. Note that it is also possible in this scenario to lose the game, but be a high scorer. If your teammates quit, the new zealous computer pirates on your team will begin challenging your attempts to get the opponents.

On a side note, be aware that for every ten wins on Level One, you earn 40 bonus credits. This does not apply to Levels Two and Three. I wasted so much time enjoying my Level Three status before I realized what a beneficial source of credits Level One was.

On a final side note, a theory has surfaced regarding recurrent game crashes in pirates. The theory states that if you click on a text bubble, your game will crash. This has proven true in my own and others' experience. If you find yourself in a game with chatty players, you may wish to avoid the top of the screen. It really stinks to be on the verge of a big win and have some dead teammate's "Go red!" appear right under your cursor click. Crash! Your teammates get the win credits and you get the blue bar of Purgatory.

Hope this helps you and other fellow pirates.

Great post Rick!

I especially dig the part about level one wins. I was wondering about that myself. I know I have gotten extra points for ten wins after getting the pin, but it did not seem to be consistent. I would play at all levels and not get the points after ten wins.

Thanks for the info!

P.S. I can confirm the bubble crashes.

So even after you win level three you can go back and play level one and earn extra points again? If so thats cool to know since I dont do level one as often. I like level 2 because its the most challenging one. Level three is the easiest to em because the pirates are so predictable every time. But its fast/easy points.

I too can verify the crash if you hit the bubble too.

pirate: Pirates is a great game! pirate:

Only thing is I have know idea how your score gets to be on the High Score list. For a while I thought the High Score list for Pirates was bugged, since I know I've gotten higher scores than those that are already on there.

Sundowner76 did mention that you found a site that explained how the high scores were calculated. Can you post a link?

As for the link that you get at Lvl3...make sure you have at least Adobe Acrobat Reader as the printable coupon for the VMK bracelet (redeemable at the Disney Parks) is in .pdf format. It does take a while to load, so be patient.

Happy raiding!

The place where the points were calculated was another post on here. I would put a link, but I don't remember which one it was. :guilty:

By the way, I have the coupon, but as I am guessing it is for one of the regular green glow in the dark vmk bracelets, I haven't used it. Assuming it is what I think it is, it would be worthless for the code (since I have already used the code from the bracelet I got for turning in quests at the park). Am I right about this?

This may seem the most stupidest Question but Im so sad cause I want the teleportation magic pin.. anyone have a spare one.. :(

Btw, be sure to join up with the Oh Yes Club.. :mickeybar:

You're right. The bracelet from the Pirate coupon is the same as the bracelet you get doing the in-park quests. So unless you're collecting those glowie bracelets, it would be useless if you've already used the code in-game.
