ok, i have never been to wdw and my family and i are staying on site. we would like 1 day to do some shopping...is there an outlet mall and walmart close to disney? how would we get there? would taxi be too much money? also we have a 19 month old...what will we do about a carseat? thanks
There is an outlet center and a wal-mart just outside WDW in Lake Buena Vista. Taxi depends on where you are inside WDW, should be from $20 to $30 each way.
You can rent a car for a day for around $50-60 at the WDW Car Care Center (shuttle van by prior arrangement) or at the Dolphin. Both have Alamo and National.
Car seat - not required on buses, but technically is required in taxis. Problem is you will have a hard time finding and using seat belts on most taxis. Most people do not try to install them in taxis. Some towncar and taxi services will dispatch a car with a car seat for an extra fee and a really extra long wait.
A lot of people bring a car seat as checked baggage. Some bring FAA approved ones on the flight and buy a seat. We always did this but we never tried to use one in a taxi or bus, too hard.
How long will you be at Disney? If ten days or less, I wouldn't waste my time and money traveling to Walmart and an outlet mall.
You can go to an outlet mall and Walmart any day of the year at home for less. I would bet there is some type of outlet mall near your home.
You should be able to find what you want at DTD (I think there is even a discount store everything 10.00 or less.) You can get anything you need on site. Yes, some things might be a bit more than you can get at Walmart but you also wouldn't have to pay the 30.00-50.00 one-way (round trip) taxi fare. Don't assume Walmart will be less than at WDW. I think a gallon of milk in the resort gift shops is around $2.50 right now. And the Kissimee Walmart prices might be more than what you pay at home due to regional sales tax differences.
Buy souvenirs or t-shirts from DisneyOutlet.com online before your trip. I have bought great deals from there before (7.00 Polo shirts with Mickey emblem for everyone in my family) along with cheap t-shirts and even toys from the parks (7 inch stuffed Mickey and Donald) the same ones sold in the park.
You could even have a grocery order sent to your hotel room. That is what lots of people do. They order on line or over the phone and what they pay for delivery is less than the taxi ride.
