Without a car? Train? *We liked taking the train from San Diego to Anaheim. Tour bus? Maybe thinking of doing this for DD's B~day trip in early July. Maybe my cousin in Irivine wouldn't mind driving us up there, she has 2 little girls..... If I rent a car, is it an easy drive ~ I didn't mind driving from San Diego to Anaheim and back to San Diego.

You could do it on train and then transit. You could take the amtrak to union station and then take transit from there.
I would take the metro (subway) to probably Vermont and then transfer to a bus.
Its doable.
There are tons of routes I am sure - put in from Disneyland to the Grove if you want to transit the whole way at http://www.metro.net/index.asp
or put in Union station to the Grove if you want to amtrak to LA.

We LOVE the grove -try to go on every visit. Amazing shopping and so 'LA'!

The drive is pretty easy - it's just knowing where to get off the freeway and take side streets. You can get there from two different angles. Going to the 10 Freeway and then North by city streets, or going to the 101 Freeway and approaching from the Hollywood side.

I actually think that way contains less off-freeway driving and there are a few decent sights to see along the way. I would get off the 5 North onto the 101 Freeway (left exit off the 5) and then exit the 101 at Highland/Cahuenga (the Hollywood Bowl exit of the 101). This right turn exit will dump you onto Odin and then straight onto Highland at the Hollywood Bowl. Take Highland south about three blocks to the light at Franklin. Turning right, just before the Renaissance Hollywood, take Franklin to La Brea (south) and turn left with the majority of the traffic. Take La Brea a few miles straight south to 3rd and turn right onto 3rd. You are just a few blocks from Fairfax and the Grove/Farmers Market. There are large lots/garages and you can park in either the official Grove garage or the Farmer's Market flat parking lot.

Keep in mind that you will need to get validation from a Farmer's Market Vendor for their lot and a Grove Mall store/restaurant for the garage. This is not difficult to do, as there are fabulous shops and food in both areas.
