How to get free upgrade....works for me

When we checked in at WDW last year, my adorable DD's 8 and 13 both had their portable CD's going with the headphones on and all, singing the lyrics loudly to an Eminem song; needless to say, we were downgraded from a water view to a dumpster view.

Also, the CM at Epcot made them pay for their soda samples at Ice Station Cool.

Life is tough sometimes.

:rotfl: That's usually why I make them sit in the waiting area!

kap10, no need to go back to the front desk to keep checking. They give you a phone number you can call to check and see if the room is done.

I just wanted to clarify some things. I never intended to call anyone's children prostitutes as I was accused of doing. I was simply saying that exploiting your own children is far worse than exploiting your own body (i.e. flirting, showing cleavage, etc. to get what you want).

If a cute kid gets you an upgrade, fine. My problem was with people who said things like children are tools to be used for adults to get what they want. It's the circle of life....yadda yadda yadda. Or those who very intentionally try to use their children for benefits. This turns my stomach.

I also resent the snarky comments about some people's children not being cute enough to get free upgrades. Do I really need to explain what is wrong with such sentiments?

I think that the person who orignially pointed out the problems with this method being used by so many of you parents did so in a mature way and brought a valid point to the discussion. Why do others have to be so immature in their responses (not all but some)?

it is immatue or naive to not take every advantage given to you.

by your definition, shirley temple should not have been in movies because she was a cute kid being exploited. Or Lelo, shes a cute cartoon....MY GAWD...being used to make money.

I will say it again...use the tools you have, and give yourself and those around you a better life. yes, it is the circle of life plain and simple.

Exploitation is making a kid sew a NIKE tennis shoe 10 hours a day for pennies on the dollar, not letting your kid get you a room upgrade.

Boy, there is a lot in this world to be outraged about. Bringing a cute kid to the check-in desk to try to snag an upgrade would be pretty low on the list. Lighten up, folks.

Jen D you took the words out of my mouth. It would be one thing if a parent were forcing the child to do something that they didn't want to do or making the child uncomfortable. I don't think anyone will call DCFS on someone for bringing their child to the check-in counter in hopes of receiving an upgrade.

I love the Dis, but I don't like the "holier than thou" attitudes that a tiny few seem to have here. There are so many worse things to get in an uproar about. Can we all just get along! :sunny:

I agree! It isn't as though the CM is being charmed by an adorable child to kick occupants out of another room, just to provide the little angel with an upgrade. If the rooms weren't available, the CM wouldn't offer. If the rooms ARE available, I say - give them to the cute kid. Doesn't effect my stay any.

This is not the debate board. Please keep your comments on topic. The OP wanted opinions on how to secure an upgrade so keep your comments related to that.

we we upgraded to a water view with perfect view up epcot.

We have stayed at the YC 9 different times, and out of those visits we were upgraded 7 times, once to concierge from standard. Most of the time I had my DD's next to me smiling, but as the years passed and they turned into "teens", they weren't really an asset at check-in, if you know what I mean! In general the YC aims to please all their guests. Come to think of it, the one time we stayed at the WL, we were upgraded too! In general if the resorts can upgrade you, they will.

We got upgraded at WL last week from a woods view to a courtyard view. I don't know if it was because I had my 2 year old son and 3 month old daughter with me.....but my parent's were upgraded as well and they checked in the next day. So I think it really depends on luck and availibility.

I have been to WDW eights times, always on property and have never been upgraded once. We have been for our anniversery 4 times. Am I upset? No. do I wish we got a free upgrade? sure. But the upgrade certainly will not define whether or not we have a "magical" trip.

Now, can I borrow someone's children in Dec? All children are cute so I don't care what they look like.

I have 3, one of them has to get you that upgrade. And with it being Christmas time...........go ahead, borrow away!!!! :p :p

Thanks AllStarFan,

I'm thinking of borrowing my niece. She is quite the cute one and has an annual pass. I don't think my brother will mind.

(for those who do not agree with using their children in this way, I am only joking. I don't want some kid slowing me down while I'm at WDW anyway)
