How to get college credit from CP?

I haven't seen this topic talked about very much. I know most people do the CP just for fun or for some work experience, but is there anyone out there who took classes from the program and was able to get credit for them? How did you do it? My friend's in the DLR CP for Spring 2011 right now, and she didn't check with her college before going. Is there any way she can still get credit? I think she's taking one eligible class.

I also posted this in the CP Questions thread, but I figured there are other people out there who are wondering about the credit question specifically.

Thanks for the reply! It's really helpful, but my friend is in the program right now. Is there any way she can get credit if she didn't talk to her college beforehand? Who do you talk to at a college to get credit for CP? I am more interested in the specific steps of how to get college credit for the program.

I had a meeting with my campus CP advisor who is also a career counselor and just basically does a lot of stuff with the school. She said each school varies on which classes they will accept for credit, but she gave me a list of what UNCW accepts and then the name of the class that it would transfer back as. Example, the human resources management class transfers back to my school as Management 356. Obviously, every school will be different.

My steps to get credit include filling out a transient study form with the Disney classes I am going to take and then get an ACE (American Council for Education) transcript and send it to my school at the end of my CP to get credit. I got a whole sheet on how requesting a transcript from ACE works. There is a $40 registration fee which includes one transcript, and then each additional transcript is $15.

I'd say check with your school and see if there is a full-time person that works there, but is kind of heads-up of the CP for your school. I say this because I doubt the peer campus reps would be able to give you all the information you need about your school's course credits and what they will accept transferred back.

:worship:Thanks so much for the details. So, just to make sure I understood you correctly: she'd have to call to see if they have a full-time employee who's in the know about CP or talk to an advisor? From there, she'd have to fill the transient form, and then send her transcripts to her college at the end of CP? Sorry if I totally missed it. This kind of thing is hard for me to follow unless I've gone through the process myself.

Yep, you basically got it! Disney Courses (at least some, not sure if all) have been accredited by the American Council for Education so that's why you have to get the transcript from ACE at the end of the program.

Maybe not all schools make you fill out a transient study form, but I know mine does, no matter what the situation is if you are taking classes elsewhere. I was going to take summer classes at a school closer to my home, and it was at a school that is in the UNC system, but they still wanted me to fill out a transient study form. Hopefully there is someone who works at the school who is familiar with the college program and knows how it works. I would assume there would be since I would think the campus reps would need to have someone in charge :confused3

Anyway, good luck helping your friend sort this out! It does seem like a lot to do, but hopefully once things get explained better she'll understand.
