How to get characters to pose differently

All the pictures I have are of us just standing next to characters. How do I ask them to maybe get down to my toddler's level for a hugging shot or do something fun. I really want some different pics of my kids with the characters this time. Any ideas for how to request this especially when the cast members seem to be in a hurry?

When we took my son for his first visit, he loved the characters, but Goofy seriously intimidated him. Because Goofy's HUGE. I simply asked Goofy if he could possibly get down a bit so my little guy wouldn't be scared. He knelt down happily.

We've asked characters to do a high five with my son, too. Oh! And we've asked for a "jazz hands" photo as well - those are funny, with the character's huge hands. :)

I've often seen characters kneel when toddlers run at them, to give/get hugs.

I think, if you choose one of these things per character, and you ask nicely, you'll find that most characters will accommodate you.

Thank you! That's good to know. I love your jazz hands idea!

I've seen people request poses (we haven't) and they are very accommodating for the most part. If it created a danger to the character or costume, they will let you know. (Sleeping Beauty had to step away from a girl posing with a drink. She played it off well and the CM stepped in).

Sometimes the characters just jump right into it. My Granddaughter was 2 1/2 and Pluto went down on all fours when he saw her. She dropped down too and they had fun playing as dogs and bumping noses.

Overall I think they're willing do try out different poses and often they'll recommend some.

When it was just me, I asked the characters to show me their favorite pose for me to mimic. I've met some characters so many times that I've started requesting poses (as long as they fit within the story line). Sleeping with Aurora, showing off our shoes with Cinderella, jumping with Tigger, etc.

If you want to see some of the poses I've done, check out the WDWCharacterHunt link in my signature.

Now that I've got a 2 DD, most of our best photos are candids. However, when DD was 9 months I did ask Darth Maul to pose for this beauty:

I have seen many of your characters poses over past years, Brenna, always impressed. And now so many with you and DD and character, or just her and character. You must have hundreds! This one is a classic for sure. Thanks for all you add here.

Just make a pose. They are quick with your choices.

Goofy kept pointing at my sneakers and was trying to tell me that I matched his outfit. FYI I just got done crying with Mickey Mouse so I had red eyes. But I was happy. I'm a dead giveaway when I'm feeling emotions.

Wow what great photos! Thank you all so much for sharing! I can't wait to go in May!

We did kitty paws with Marie, and my son flexed his muscles with Gaston. I like some old ones that have my kids looking at the character, NOT straight ahead at the camera. I have some with the kids talking with the characters that I love.

One of my old favorites, is all 6 of us with Mickey Mouse. My 3rd son was about 6, he was small though, has down syndrome. This was in the days of FILM, so you never knew what the photos were like until after your trip, lol. Well, 5 of us are looking straight at the camera. Son #3, was right in front of Mickey, and he has his head tilted all the way back so he could see Mickey! I did not know he was doing that, as I was looking straight ahead.

As many have said, a smile, and asking politely really can get you far. Three of my favorite photos are because I asked.
