Happy Tuesday! We would like to buy some bottles of alcohol on the ship, but are not sure how to get them home without breaking when travelling by plane. I would love to hear any suggestions you have on packing and transporting them safely. Thank you in advance!!

Bring plastic bags big enough to hold them and then bubble wrap them. They have to go into checked luggage.

This is the packaging we use. We like it because it is reusable. We have used it 6 times now to bring home a bottle of rum or wine in our suitcase!

Neither did I! :) The alcohol bottles we are thinking of are not shaped like a bottle of wine, but hopefully I can find something similar that will work.

Thank you!

We have put the bigger bottles of Krackle in it. You inflate the bag around your bottle....I’m sure you could find something else similar.

You might consider bringing an old towel and a bag from home. Wrap it in the towel and then put it in the bag. If you can find a ziplock suitable, go for it. You want to protect your clothes as well as your investment. Also, if you're buying it on the ship, make sure to tell the CM that you're traveling by plane and they can wrap it well for you. If not, try in the stores, because they sell breakables and have to be able to wrap them well.

I recently traveled from the UK to Australia with a couple of bottles of a local gin. The bottle only had a loose cork as the 'lid' or seal. This trip included a short domestic flight to London, transfer in Dubai and then onwards to Sydney so all in, 3 separate flights. We wrapped tape around the top of the bottle in case the cork got dislodged and also wrapped the bottle in bubble wrap. We also wrapped the bottle's in clothing from our suitcase, packed them in the middle of the case surrounded by soft items. All the bottles arrived in Sydney in one piece. You may want to consider taking some small sheets of bubble wrap and tape with you.

We have used plastic, bottle-shaped bags that had the "bubbles" built in. It was perfect size for most liquor or wine bottles. We picked it up at a local store. They worked great. The plastic sealed so if there was a break it wouldn't leak everywhere. Then we just put the bags in the middle of the suitcase so there was clothes all around it. This really should work, even with aggressive baggage handlers. It would take a lot of direct pressure on the bottle to break it. Being in the bottle bag and in the middle of the suitcase makes that less likely.

I have used Jetbags and Wine Diapers, both will hold a bottle a bit bigger than a wine bottle. I prefer the Jetbag as the Wine Diaper padding inside is loose and slips around after the first use so you have to hold the top in order for it not to wad up as you slide the bottle in. The Jetbag has the padding fixed in place so just easier to deal with. :flower3:

A wine lover and friend of mine told me to use hard side luggage, says use a smaller bag if possible that isn't weighted down, the bags as pictured above are a must use he said. But said the packaging inside is only part, if another bag lands on a soft sided suitcase it can still break a bottle.

We have used our original set of 'Jet Bags' for years with never a leak or break. We have brought back wine, liquors, jam even honey from all over the world in our checked bag with no problem. They are reusable, resealable and lined with absorbent material should a leak occur. As an extra measure, we usually bury them in a plastic bag of dirty laundry.

Just a warning. The ship can and has run out of bubble wrap towards the end of the cruise. We had that happen to us on the last 5 night cruise. We wanted our model ship bubble wrapped and all of the stores were out.

The funny thing is I used to use real diapers when I would pack wine in my suitcases. I have two kids so that was back in the days. My logical thought was that if it does break the maybe the diaper absorbs some of the liquid. Depending on what size diaper I would use one or two and wraparound. But still put it in a plastic mini garbage bag inside another mini garbage bag

One more tip. As I have actually always packed wine When traveling. Is to make sure that your suitcase is fully packed. The one out of maybe 100 times or something did break. It was in a suitcase that was not fully packed and things were then able to move around. Bottle of wine or liquid shouldn’t break in a fully packed suitcase if dropped. It will break if it hits against something inside the suitcase cause there’s room to joggle.

You have me curious as to what liquor you are buying on the ship in funky shaped bottles. I am more of a Jim Beam and Meyers rum type guy.

Thank you!

We used a similar bubble wrap thing to bring home a complimentary full-size bottle of Woodbridge Reserve Bourbon from our San Juan Celebrity Cruise. We didn't have any issues with the ship baggage handlers, put out the night before, or the flight back to Texas. Those bottles are kind of big and a weird oblong shape. The bottle just fit.
