How to get a chipmunk out of the house

This is the second one we’ve had in the house in just a few weeks
The first one was so tired that DH just swooped it in a bag and took it outside
But last night he was sitting on the table digging in a plant jumped to a chair and then ran off somewhere
Our cats are no help
So any ideas how to get him out
We do have to find him first

A couple years ago we had one literally knock on our garage door leading into the house lol.
We opened the door thinking one of our cats had gotten out there and suddenly this little chipmunk came tearing through the house.
It took us about 30 minutes chasing it around we even had the back door open for it to run out but it wouldn't.
Eventually it jumped into the bathroom garbage so we took it outside and let it out.
I don't have much other advice than play chase with it until you get it somewhere that you can get it to go into a bag etc and take it outside.

I think you should also be concerned with how they are getting into the house. I know people who have had massive damage done in their homes from these guys and squirrels, attics and basements. Chimney? Screen torn? Did an outside vent wiggle out of place (the foam stuff works)? Did the grate for the dryer vent get pushed in?

Trap them.

Be aware they may be chewing on your wiring. We had that issue with squirrels who moved into the attic.

Get a live trap and put some food/water in it. If he doesn't have any way to get out of the house, he'll get hungry.

Did your kitties invite him in for a play date? Mine used to do that, then get bored and let their new friend wander off in the house. If you watch them, they may let you know where he is. I found out the hard way that if the cats are taking shifts watching under a piece of furniture, there might be something living under there.

Forgot to add, watch the cat dishes if you leave food out. One of our visitors filled the entire oven drawer with cat food before we figured out he was living under there. He was a busy little dude.

The wiring is what has us worried the most
Our cats could care less their no help
Actually with this last one we blamed we one of the cats since a plaque was also knocked over
We got the number of a pest control

People frequently use steel wool in gaps where chipmunks, squirrels and company attempt to get into cottages as well.
Be aware that the chipmunks, squirrels, and company may just find or make another entrance.

That was our experience with squirrels.

When our home was built the electricians drilled a hole in the soffit that was not needed. The squirrels used that as an opportunity to move into the attic.

When we contacted the builder he initially filled in the hole with foam and steel wool as a temporary measure.

The squirrels just chewed a new hole in the soffit to get back home.

In the end he hired a wildlife exterminator who trapped them and took them to a "farm" to live. Once the family was gone the soffit was replaced, the wiring in the attic they had chewed on replaced, and we no longer had squirrels in the attic.

We’ll we have pest control com coming tomorrow they do have live
traps and will check to see where there coming in from
We were talking to a neighbor who had a com since she had mice in the garage the com was actually coming by her today whike we we’re there so we talked to them. There com though says chipmunks arent rodents
If they aren’t rodents what are they are

Exactly. I was renting a house where the owner was one of the women who came from the era when being "dainty" was a positive thing. But, as a widow, alone and the landlady, being dainty and HELPLESS is not the thing to be when I had a couple RATS running around the house. 😡 😱

After weeks of her doing nothing except act like a victim when I was the one with the rats, I ended up having to call the city's Department of Health to report her inability to do anything. The inspector came out, made a report noting how there were openings, high up on the roof, near the chimney and other places where the screens were ajar, that the rats could be climbing in.

She was ordered to have someone seal those off. Then she hired Terminex, which did nothing but put out sticky rat traps for mega-bucks, when the landlady could have bought them from a hardware store for a couple dollars each. Plus, they didn't help. Late at night, I heard one rat stuck itself to a trap, but after a couple hours was able to peel itself off the trap, leaving a patch of fur, in the same way a strip of hot wax treatment does hair removal. Then ALL the rats knew to stay away from the traps.

One night, as they are nocturnal, I left the front door open, hoping they would get out that way. I took the chance that more wouldn't come in. I sat on the couch nearby, hoping to close the door if I heard them scurry out, but fell asleep. But it worked! They left while I was sleeping. :thumbsup2

But, there was so much bad blood between me & my landlady over that, that I moved out after that.

Based on a google search, chipmunks are rodents.

I don't understand what "com" is.

I have found peanut butter a good bait for chipmunks and squirrels. But I still need a trap, or some patience to sit around and broom it into a trash container to carry out.

Chipmunks, Squirrels, pretty much any varmint. All you need is a Wire Fox Terrier... trust me I've had 5 in my life. 😆
