How to get a balcony at the Contemporary

We booked a "garden view" room at the Contemporary. In one of the garden wings, they did not say No. or So. I have read in some posts people paid abot $10 extra/night for a 1st floor room with a balcony. I was not told of this option when I booked. We are paying more for a garden view instead of standard view room.

We would love to be on the 1st floor. Should I call back and ask for 1st floor? Maybe garden view means 1st floor?

Garden view refers to the view not the floor you are on. There is a patio on the 1st floor, but no balcony. That means you can walk out the slider doors and also I believe a small table and chairs are there for your use. So if you are on the 1st floor you will have the patio area.

There aren't any balconies in the two garden wings of the Contemporary. First floor rooms have a slider out to a patio area, which seems to be especially great for people with smaller children. Some of the rooms in the North wing are right outside the kiddie playground/sandbox. The other floors have a slider that opens, but you can't go out. I believe there's a big piece of wood (part of the design of the building) in the front of the lower part of the slider. Don't know if you have to pay extra for a first floor room, or if you just request this.

I believe you only pay an extra $10/night for a first floor room if you are reserving through Shades of Green. For the standard Contemporary guest, the levels are based upon building and view. The only balconies are in the tower rooms. The first floor rooms in the wings do have patios as described - just watch out for the ducks - they are VERY tame, and try to come right inside the room!
