I got some questions on how I did this on a recent swap and since I sort of stumbled on it myself I thought I would share the technique. The end result looks like this:
First thing I do is create a table in Microsoft Word with two rows and two columns. Then I get rid of the borders on the table by selecting the 'no border' on the icon as shown below:
Then I insert the photo (I pull jpgs off the internet for this and save them).
When you click on the photo - a photo toolbar should appear on the word document itself. Select on the orientation button "Behind text" and then on the color button "Washout" and it will look like this:
Then you can move the picture with the mouse or with the keyboard arrows into the table where you have your words. I generally get the wording all perfect first with font and color etc. and then move the picture. Since the picture is behind the text, once you 'let go of it' and the handles are gone, you can't get back to it unless you use undo. So I get it all perfect in one table cell, then highlight the cell to copy and paste it into the others. The gridlines do not print when you print it out.
Not sure if this all makes sense so please let me know if anyone has any questions. For some reason there are huge white spaces between the pics - can't figure that out!
