When I saw Over the Hedge today I saw a preview for How to Eat Fried Worms! This movie looks adorable, even cuter than the book. I can't wait. Is anyone else looking forward to it?

Ewww - I don't think I can sit through that one. We have seen the preview three times now and each time I almost lose my lunch!

It's a book? I did not know that. I might have to check that out for DD. She hates to read, but wants to see that movie so bad. I told her I would wait in the lobby for her!

Yeah, I am planning to miss this one too. DD and I have seen the preview a few times and each time I have to cover my eyes, I don't think my stomach could handle the whole movie. Luckily she has no interest either to see it, so I am off the hook for that one :teeth:

Actually we were talking about it earlier today and we both thought maybe it is geared more for boys, they would love the gross out factor.

How to Eat Fried Worms, by Thomas Rockwell, is a chapter book, but it's short. I would say it's about a 2nd grade level, but the kids in the book are a little older than that. It's an older book cause I remember reading it when I was a kid. It's a pretty well-known book.

DS6 has told me that he and I MUST go see it as soon as it comes out. As for DD9, I think she'd rather eat a worm than go see that movie. I saw her covering her eyes when the preview was on.

That's so funny; I just found my circa 1980 copy of the book in the basement today and showed it to my 8 year old son. I didn't even know they were going to make it into a movie! I will make him read the book first!

Okay if the book is from around 1980 that makes sense, since I was in my 20s! (I didn't have DD until I was 39)

I pulled some info on the book online - there is a whole "worms" unit from a school that read the book. http://www.mce.k12tn.net/reading/fried_worms_unit.htm

Vocab, comp questions, and activities.

Since it's a chap book, and over 80 pages, she can use it as one of her summer reading challenge books. I will have to go in search of the book! Hopefully not to difficult since the movie is coming out!

Maybe I will make a deal that if she reads the book (did I mention she HATES to read) I will go to the movie with her and just keep my EYES closed:scared1:! DDs a bit of a tomboy!

Once again, this board proves to be amazing. There is always something new to learn!

:thanks: :disrocks:

I just read this book a few weeks ago with one of my 3rd grade reading groups! It was gross -- the boys did love it. I didn't know anything about a movie coming out though. I am sure I will hear about it next school year from those students who read it with me.

Every year I read this book to my second graders. I hope they remember me when the movie comes out. :goodvibes

My DS and DD immediately remembered that I had read the book to them.

I remember the old CBS cartoon special on this book back in the 80s.
