We are leaving for the World next Friday and this will be our first trip in January with kids. I am not sure how to dress the kids for the weather. I have been on the Weather Channel website and so far the first day it will be rainy with a high/low of 71/53. The second day it will be p. cloudy with high/low temps of 75/56.

Should I put them in long pants and short sleeved shirts with sweatshirts or should I put them in shorts and long sleeved shirts with sweatshirts? And how do I dress the 3 month old?

I know this question sounds silly but I cannot figure out what to pack!

Thanks for the help! ;)

It can be pretty chilly in the am and after the sun goes down in the winter months. I would dress them in layers that you could strip off when the afternoon sun comes out. Yes since they are so little, I would dress them in pants.

Our plan is to do pants with t-shirts and layer on sweatshirts, windbreakers, etc. I'll probably pack a pair of shorts or two for the boys, but I think they'll be fine in pants even if it is warmer.

It's definitely a tricky time of year to pack for!

kstinw19 we will be there the same time. We are going the 19-25. Staying at OKW gives us access to a washer and dryer in our room so my plan is to pack 2 of everything...shorts, pants, t shirts, sweatshirts and one jacket for everyone. We have 2- 3yo's, a 1 yo, and a 10 yo. Where are you staying?

Layers! Light weight gloves for night.
Don't forget a bag in the stroller to put the layers in as the day gets warmer.:)

we will be there the same week and am having the same problem. I tend to get hotter than colder, so i'm packing shorts, but I'm guessing most of the time I'll be in capris. I've got capris for my older kids too. My DD1 will be the toughest one to dress because she is growing out of her 18mo clothes but I hate to buy MORE long sleeved shirts now. So I'll be layering her for sure with jackets and sweatshirts!

One more week, and I can't wait. The weather can only be better than the 40 degrees that is here right now!!;)

We are going 2 weeks later and have the same issue. When we went in Nov of 06 we put the kids in pants and short sleeve shirts with either a long sleeve underneath or a sweatshirt. I also brought shorts with us. We ended up chaning them into shorts almost every day b/c it got so warm. DH and I pretty much wore shorts with a t-shirt and sweatshirt every day.

I'd put your little one in a onsie and then add layers on top. Bring a blanket for the mornings and evenings.

Capri's are awesome for the girls! :thumbsup2 My DD's wore them 5 out of the 7 days there. The warmer days they wore a tank top or short sleeved shirt with it, the cooler days a long sleeved shirt. We started every morning w/ a zip up sweatshirt on and then tied it around our waist when it got warm! As for the boys, I know they make some shorts very long...that might be a good option for them (or even the zip off pants). My Dh was in shorts almost every day (from WI-everthing feels warm to him!). We did wear jeans twice (even my DH) and don't forget the fleece! We had shorts on one day as it was 78, that night a front came through and the next day we had fleece jackets, headbands, and stretchy gloves on!:confused3 Anyways, layer, layer, layer! Have fun!:goodvibes

Thanks everyone for such great tips!!

We are staying at BWV from 1/18 - 1/26th. We are very excited to be going but the weather is throwing me for a loop!

We will have a washer/dryer too so that will be very helpful, especially since the infant spits up constantly :mrpukey:

See you there :dance3:

The last time we went in January it was 60-70s during the day and 40-50s at night. We usually brought a light coat or a fleece jacket. However by the end of our trip it was cold and we were in hats and gloves. I'm wondering if it's because our blood got use to the weather????:confused3

Funny part about that trip -- up here in MA they got a blizzard and we had to stay in Disney for 2 extra days. Sounds wonderful doesn't it, but they were the most expensive days of our entire trip.

We love January. most of the time we wear long pants, a t-shirt and cover with the sweat shirt that we can take off and add as needed. We do take a mid weight coat but most trips they never leave the car. DS has worn shorts a few days out of several trips in Jan. He also has swam most trips though it is cold on getting out. We have only been really hot ONE day and only really cold ONE day our of many winter days. We LOVE January.

Planning a trip in Jan and Feb can be tough. Today we are in shorts, but last week we were in jeans. For our girls, we generally pack dresses and we can put a pair of long knit pants under and then bring a sweater or light jacket. I don't have boys, but I have seen people with those pants that the legs zip (or velcro) on and off. Like others said, layers.

Have fun.
