How to deal with a snoring roommate?

My Dh had the sleep study done before we planned out first family WDW vacation. He ended up with a CPAP. Now we both sleep better. I knew it was working for him when he took it to places where he was sleeping alone. He feels more rested because his sleep is better. I don't worry about him driving home afterwork and staying awake. As for the noise of the machine, I have to listen very carefully to see if it is even on.

Good luck to you and your family.

I travel with a white noise machine and a small fan all the time, to drown out hotel noise. If I'm traveling with someone I know snores, I'll also take some earplugs. Usually, if I can fall asleep with the fan and noise machine before they do, I'm fine. But if I don't, then I'll need the earplugs. I can't wear earplugs too many nights in a row without having a bad reaction to them, so I don't put them in unless it's necessary.

I had to laugh when I read this one! When we went to the CR in 2003, my mom,my brother, his GF, my DH, 3 yo and 10mo sons all had a 2 bedroom at the CR. My mother snored so bad the first night that the rest of us all had to abandon the room with the 2 double beds and sleep all over in the other rooms! The 3yo was only one who could sleep thru the snoring! She woke the baby up even from another room! She had paid for all of us so you couldn't complain, but it was so tiring!! I took to napping with the baby so I could get some sleep! Good luck is all I can say and bring a fan!:)

Have you tried a pillow? A nice firm pillow placed ever so gently on the face. Then gentle, but firm pressure applied. :lmao: :lmao:

I jest because DH is a VERY LOUD snorer. And some nights I feel like doing just that! I wonder ....how loud are the jail cells?:lmao: :lmao:

Yes, my husband snores also. I use the orange earplugs from WalMart. I get them in the hunting section. The ones they sell in the sleeping section aren't big enough and seem to let more sound in. They are a soft earplug that expands once you put them in your ear. You still may hear a bit of snoring, I do but he sleeps next to me, not in the next bed. The ear plugs actually help me fall asleep because I can relax, it's almost like meditating hearing yourself breath.
Have a good time!

I checked out all kinds of ear plugs - found the REMINGTON brand of hunting ear plugs to block out the most decibles (~22 if I remember correctly). the others didn't come close to the decible block out that Remington so I agree - go to the hunting section! I got a package that held multiple pairs. (They're green.)

The only thing I worry about with these earplugs is that I'll oversleep the alarm because I won't hear it with ear plugs in and DH has a severe hearing impairment so he's NEVER hearing it!

This thread cracks me up cause on my last trip at the CR, my friend snored like NO TOMORROW. He also slept talked death threats. It was horrible. I will never spend another night in a room with him again. I tried waking him up, but by the time he went back to sleep, he started up his engine again! I also threw pillows at him and nothing worked! By best advice is spring for his own room. Thats what I'm doing if my friend comes with me. And if he can afford, he can get his own. Now I'm not sure of your budget, but you wanna sleep, right?

Brookstone has a special pillow which I can't afford to buy now - if you try let me know if it works. Also my fathers doctor gave him some prescription for a medicine that my mother says works well. I don't know the name and haven't tried it yet.

My husband sometimes snores and I hate earplugs. A good kick usually does the trick:thumbsup2 ActuaLLY I might look into one of those machines.

:rotfl2: I have often felt the same way.

I agree with kkprolx....

buy earplugs

then if your dad can manage to stay awake longer than you all, have him go to sleep after you...
bring a book light and he can read, while you guys are going to sleep or soemthing...

my DH snores the second he hits the pillow if he goes to sleep before me sometimes even with the earplugs i cant fall to sleep
my snoring starts in the early hours of the am ( i have sinus problems so it takes awhile for the congestion to start) so i often wake him up at 4 or 5am

It's called the Sona Pillow. My wife got it for me for Christmas :santa:

She must really love me :rotfl2:

I can snore with the best of them. According to my wife the pillow works, that is, as long as you stay in the correct position.

It was a little hard for me to get used to the pillow, but now it's no big deal. As long as I fall asleep in the right position my wife says I hardly snore anymore. This gives her a chance to fall asleep. And if I move out of the position during the night and my snoring wakes her up she just gives me a nudge and I move back to the correct spot.

I say go with the earplugs. I have used them before and though they don't completely mask the snoring, they muffle it enough so I could sleep.

Send him in for a sleep study and get him a CPAP machine before the trip.

Before he got his CPAP, I would have NEVER married DH. I spent one night with him and said "no wonder you're still single."

I use my portable CD player, and listen to nice relaxing music or nature sounds. My favorite is a CD that I bought at AKL which they play at the resort. Just make sure your CD player has an automatic shut-off. I'm sure you could try an I-Pod or other MP3, but I don't know if they shut off automatically. Anything is worth a try. I also go in our extra room quite often, but I'll soon need to "practice" sleeping in the same room as hubby before our upcoming May vacation.

Usually shoving my hubby is enough to disrupt him and get him to roll over. :rolleyes1 No seriously though, I suggest you get him into a sleep lab and have him checked for sleep apnea.

Barring that, earplugs. The good kind. Like you'd wear to a Nascar race. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I have a few dozen spare pairs lying around... really. (I love Nascar!) :drive:

We are leaving for the World in 2 months and my father is going with us. The problem is, he snores, LOUD! Last time he went with us we tried the breathrite strips and tellin him to lay certain ways in bed but it didn't work. He snored every night and kept waking everyone up except for himself. We'd wake him up and tell him to shut up, but he'd fall asleep before any of us could and it would start again. We have two rooms this time and we are going to be switching him between rooms each night, but thats still means numerous sleepless nights for each of us. Have any of you found ways to help get you through the night? I've considered taking sleeping pills but I don't want to be oversleeping on my vacation due to already being exhausted from the parks as it is and then adding a pill on top of that. HELP DIS'ers, HELP!!! :snooty: :faint:

I go away often with my dear sister, she just bought a townhouse 5 minutes from my home and used to come and sleep in a spare bedroom right next to our master bedroom, she snores worse than a bear....can hear her through the solid walls.....I use ear plugs and they work great....have to put them in before the snoring starts....but once I'm asleep with the plugs in I don't hear her! Just make sure the ear plugs you use stay put in your ears.

Hope you get some sleep ..... but I'm sure you'll have a great time!
sending silent pixie dust your way! Have a great trip!

I'm trying this...my Dad is going with me and he's the poster boy for snorers!!

If I'm traveling alone, I use the sound machine without the headphones, plus I run the fan on low. This drowns out almost everything. If it's too cool for the fan, I'll turn the tv on the WDW channel that constantly shows park hours, etc. with the music in the background. The music is soft and enjoyable. I'll run that (although I close the doors to the armoir, since I need total darkness to sleep too) and it helps eliminate other noises. I just make sure it's not too loud as to disturb the neighbors.

If I'm traveling with DSis, I'll turn the sound machine on high, then plug in my headphones. This helps us both sleep well.

My portable sound machine runs on batteries, as well as AC adapter. I bring the adapter, since after a couple of nights of running it straight through, I'd probably wear out the batteries.

Give them a good kick. Then hope to fall asleep by the time they are snoring again.

Works like a charm with my husband.

My husband used to be a loud snorer until he was diagnosed with sleep apnea and got a CPAP machine. I started using these when he still snored:

http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/flenquietple3.html

I still use them every night because I really dislike white noise while I sleep and they drown out the noise of the CPAP machine.

Whenever I travel to Disney with my family I share a room with my parents. I am a really bad sleeper anyways, any little noise wakes me up immediately. My father is the world's worst snorer. The noise could raise the dead. In 2003 when we went, I was tempted to go sleep in the bathroom just so I could close a door and muffle the noise a little. I was so tired I thought I was going to burst out crying.

I tried not to complain too much, as it's not something my dad could really do anything about. He still felt terrible, and picked up a box of those for our family trip in 2006. What a lifesaver! I could still hear him, but it was very muffled. Tolerable.

I've been told that I snore - loudly. I am going for a sleep test before our next vacation. Hopefully, this will end the snoring and resolve any medical problems that I might have.

I travel to Disney each year with my adult daughter. We leave our husbands at home, and we have a great time. We've done this since her college days. She has the perfect way to not let my snoring bother her - she removes her hearing aids! :goodvibes

My husband snores loud, and my children and I hate sharing a room with him on vacation. My husband went to the Drs. and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. He now sleep with a bi-pap machine and all is silent. I would recommend he goes to a Dr. or I would to take benedryl to help me get to sleep first. Good Luck!
