How to convert crossbody bag to shoulder bag?

I bought a Heys Travelmate bag (which I love) but it is a crossover bag. The straps are attached differently than a regular shoulder bag. I have decided I am too big to be comfortable wearing a crossover bag. I can wear this as a shoulder bag but it doesnt sit correctly at my hip. Anyone have any ideas to convert crossover bag into a shoulder bag?

Is the handle soft? Maybe you could tie a knot in it.
