How to clear shower drain clog?

I love the budget board and this is a great post. I have a problem with my long hair shedding especially while washing it. Each time I shower I try to pull out as much hair that is on the drain but find our shower now slow moving again.

I don't want to use chemicals so what would work best for a known hair clog?

The best thing for our long hair is the Zip It drain cleaner snake/stick thing. It's awesome! I use it every 3 weeks or so.

This is what I have done in the past with great success.

I use a drain bladder.

Take your drain completely out.

Attach the drain bladder to a garden hose.( I take a 25'/50' depending on the length to curb hose with a shut off and attach it to another hose hooked to the hose bib)

Make sure everything is not leaking outside before you drag it in. Have some old towels ready.

Stick the bladder in as far as it will go and turn on.

With the water on the bladder swells to the pipe diameter and forces water in one direction.

Turn on/off and keep pushing the bladder farther down the pipe.

I've used the baking soda, vinegar, boiling water method along with the zipit plastic thing and works well every time. A big pot of boiling water is the key! I do this about every other month or more often when my daughter with very long hair is visiting lol!

This is one of those scenarios where being there to see what happens is kind of important. We had a constant clog. After years of putting SULFURIC ACID (which is what it is if its covered in a bag..) down our drain, it finally destroyed the cast iron and we had a leak.
Pipes should not clog consistantly. If they do, I would advise looking past just clearing the drain of the clog.I'd be looking into how to prevent it in the future and why it keeps happening.
Females expel a lot of hair. I would definitely have a good drain screen. If you have the screw in-pop down type plug, i would remove that and find another way to plug the tub. You cant put a screen in them. I would try to actually see the pipes. If you are fortunate enough to find the drains (maybe in the ceiling from a floor below or even a hatch in the wall..) you will find a cap with a square on it. that is called the cleanout. you can remove that cap and find lots of goodies.
