ok ,,, I know it sounds strange and I am by no means a baker.. so I am asking all you bakers or anyone that can solve this problem ??
I have a bag of sugar...ordinarily used for baking (granulated sugar)...
but I have just taken it out of the cupboard and the whole bag has gone hard..into one big
lump.... is there a way to break it up again. to use...??
I am not able to leave the house to pick up any new sugar and I really need to use this sugar to bake and hopefully not to waste the bag of sugar.
Any solutions out there .... or is this bag of sugar headed for the garbage..
can I somehow break it up and use it ???
thanks for any help I can get...

usually some good hard bangs on the countertop is all is needed to get it started.

Put it in a ziplock bag and :badpc:

Actually I had some brown sugar that was the same way and I broke it up with my hands. It was a long, slow, process.

Put it in a tupperware or ziploc with a piece of bread and it will soften up.

thank you so much !! The banging did not work and now I am
going to try using the bread idea...

these boards have answers for everything !!

You can warm it for a short while in the microwave. That will soften it up. :)

Yup, I've heard the microwave trick.

In my recent Quick Cooking they suggested using a box grater.

thank you thank you
I knew answers could be found here,
you guys are the greatest !!
