I'd like to spend 1 night at a Universal hotel, probabley RPR to make use of front of line etc.

Can anyone advise of any discounts or ways to make the booking as cheaply as possible.

Thanks
bob

Hi Bob

Several ways to do this but how big a discount on the rack rate you may get depends a lot on the time of year you're looking to book for and occupancy rates for that time.

You can the usual suspects on-line - Expedia, Opodo, Ebookers. The last time I booked the best discount was from $250 to $209 on one of these sites - cant' recall which one.

Alternatively, you can book directly with Universal on-line or call them directly. I enjoy the latter - you'll get their phone number from the website.

As for discounts, you can get one if you are an AA member - enter AAA into the promotional code on the website. Think this runs at 10%-15%.

I've always found the best discount at the entertainment rate (try Entertainment.com) and by using ENT as a promotional code. Close to 50% discount. However, you need to buy an entertainment book (about $25) and this offers loads of other savings.

Last time we booked (July 2005) there were very few discount codes offered for the busy months though.

However, if there are 3 or 4 of you then I would still advice you to book at the rack rate ($250+ per night) for the Express Line benefits you'll get at both parks for 2 days.

We have 3 nights booked at RPR in July and used the AAA (using our AA membership) discount, think the room was $190 per night. Current rack rate for July is $239 per night. Other discount codes may be available - check the Universal resorts sub forum - HERE

Only way I know is with an Annual Pass, I got email from them last week offering me room from 1st Jan thru 15th Feb from $129/night plus a free room upgrade. Not worth getting one for a 1 night stay but it is if you want to stay longer.

If you join Virgin Flying club you get 10% off booking the hotel only through Virgin Holidays. As you get parking free with Virgin and it includes taxes, I couldn't beat the price when I booked.

We have booked for July at AAA rates $191.20 + tax = to a 20% saving at the minute, APH rate at the minute is approx 10% saving but this can change nearer the time as can AAA rates.
I do not think they do Entertainment rates now, according to the universal part of this site they have stopped doing the ENT rates, only AAA and APH, and you need to either call Loews or Universal hotel directly to get the rates , they are not available when booking online at the minute.
Not worth joining the AA for a 1 night stay, but worth quoting AAA if you are already a member

$167 + tax with Bookit.com for December with AA (AAA) Rate
$209 + tax Seasonal rate

at RPR

I have AA membership through Lloydstsb, I hope this counts.

Thanks for the tips guys, we are going in Sept so Ill give the AA rate a go.

If you want to check out the Annual Passholder rates, type APH into the code box. You don't have to be an Annual Passholder when you book, just when you check in.

Im thinking of staying at a universal hotel for 2 nights when we are there, might take a look at soem of these discounts!

what is an AA membership ? and how do you go about getting one ?

can I also ask does anyone know if the do family rooms or suites or can you get say 2 doubles and have a connecting door.
