How to book a room after MS is closed

After 8 days in WDW it was time to say goodbye. We got to the airport and our flight was ultimately canceled. We left the airport at 9pm and called the regular reservations line to see if there were any rooms available and if we could use our points for a night. The CM told us that we couldn't use our points and could book a room at POR using cash. It was pouring rain and I was driving so I didn't log into the DVC site to see if it was possible to book that way.

Is it possible to book a room on points after MS closes?

Obviously it won't help me now, but it would be good info to have in the future.

The website will not allow you to book online for the current day. I believe what might have been possible was to go to a resort and see if they had a room available they could book on points. Or if you had the number for the resort you could have called. They might not have been able to help but that's the only possibility I'm aware of.

On our last visit in May our departure was delayed so long that we would not have made our connection, which was the only way to get home that night. But I knew it an hour or two before departing for the airport and while still in our room. I called MS and they were able to get a room at the same resort (AKV - Jambo) although we did have to change rooms. Our concierge room apparently was already booked for that night. lol So it can be relatively simple if you know prior to MS closing.

We have found the resorts very accommodating and will go out of their way to find you a room. Problem is if you are off-site it may be difficult to get to the right people. Another issue is that the front desk doesn't due points well and they often screw up your account.

After being in the airport for 6 hours and not going anywhere, we ended up driving and staying the night in Tampa because that was the only airport we could get out of the next day. Honestly, I wasn't in the mood to drive resort to resort to try to find a room for the night. It worked out well staying in Tampa because I was able to change my re-booked flight to a 7am flight.
