How to be a tour guide?

Me, my DW, DD4, and DS8 made our first trip to WDW in 2002, were immediately hooked, and are now awaiting our third annual trip in September. This time, we have convinced my parents and my sister's family to join us, as they've never been. (A Grand Gathering of 6 adults and 5 kids) As we've been thinking about this trip, my wife and I agree that we will probably have to consciously "back off" a little bit at the parks or we (or more likely our DS and DD) will be too eager to push them in the direction of our own favorite attractions. A lot of the fun of our first trip was in discovering the magic for ourselves.

Anyone have experience with this?

::yes:: Yes I'm the tour guide for my extended family and my best advise is to share your knowlege, take the lead at first they will follow along and wait for your every move but they will soon learn and will appreciate your help.

So much time is wasted by new visitors just standing trying to decide which thing to do next and where is it? If you start with a plan and ask them what they really want to do it will help. All the information about each attraction is located on the Disney Web Site so let them get involved with the planing. I have found giving them maps of the Parks to study before they arrive also helps orientate them to the different areas.

When it comes to PS I share the Menus from Around the World so they can decide where they would like to eat...I even make separate PS for each group if there are different taste and cost factors.

Have a great trip and don't worry they will all have a magical time.
