How to ask to Prom at WDW?

It's crazy how big the proposals for prom are. Around here it's like that for Homecoming too. But really, there are so any worse things they could be doing. I applaud them using their teenage creativity in such a good way!

Well said.

A teenager wants to go out of his or her way to do something sweet and special for someone else and people have a problem with that?

Let's instead rejoice that these teens are still in high school and are willing to put energy into going the extra mike for someone they care about. I actually think it should be praised. It's good practice for a relationship in which spouses focus on being givers instead of takers.

To me this seems similar to the random Saturday "breakfast in bed" that my DH treats me to

With the exception (hopefully) that your husband isn't soliciting the ideas of strangers on the internet ;)

Wow, why are people so judgmental? An elaborate or public prom invitation wouldn't be my cup of tea, either, but it is sweet and harmless, so I honestly don't see why it has stirred up so much vitriol. :confused3:

Caring about another person, and showing it, in a consenting, reciprocating relationship, is almost always worthy of approval (inappropriate PDA excepted). I say "go for it, OP's daughter!"

That said, EEEK! My daughter is almost a teenager and I am dreading dating, boyfriends, and teenage romance! ha ha.

It wouldn't bother me at all if he were on a G-RATED chat board called, "how to show your wife you love her" and he asked for ideas or recipes of how to make breakfast in bed even more special. I mean, wow- I'd celebrate the thoughtfulness of doing the research! I know I often look up things on Pinterest to give me ideas on how I can do cute things to show my husband love. (Again, G-RATED.) I certainly didn't find anything strange about the OP asking for ideas...

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm also surprised by some of the comments - after all, I would think anyone who loves Disney would be in favor of making an experience more magical. In just a few months DD will be many hours away at college; I'm just enjoying watching her as she takes these last steps towards adulthood. I'm looking forward to making more Disney memories while we can!

The only issue that I have with it, is that I think it sets people up to expect their lives to be super-romantic or like a movie...and once these people get into regular life, with one boring day after another (and boring is not bad, it's just the reality of the average life!) they are bound to be disappointed and have a steep learning curve to deal with. Just an opposing thought... I don't think this is a terrible thing to do, and I'd rather have my teen do this than be getting into trouble, but I just wonder what these teens are going to expect from the rest of their lives if they are used to such extravagant productions.

Thought I would share the happy ending! DD18 and I went to talk to Guest Services, and they were so nice, but the cast member's suggestion (a private Storyland Canal Boats ride) was way more than what DD wanted. We really just wanted something fun, not anything serious. So after talking more, we ended up getting one of the cute Mickey helium balloons that they sell on Main Street. DD wrote "PROM?" on it, and we left it with Guest Services.

Later that night when we came back to DL, DD made up an excuse to stop in at Guest Services while we waited at the flagpole. She came back with the balloon, her boyfriend smiled and said yes, and I got a cute picture of them both with Main Street in the background.

Not a huge deal, but perfect for a high school prom. :)

Thanks for the suggestions!

And, yes, we were actually at DL, not WDW, but the DL boards don't get nearly as much response, so I switched over to WDW! So thanks everyone!

Our school did a prom- I didn't go because I just didn't see the whole point. Sorry.

I just saw someone at Disney with a set of Mickey Ears with PROM? stitched on the back in place of a name

This, to me, would just mean that the individual is unsure about whether or not their name is Prom. :rotfl:
