How to adjust package and not lose FP?

We're going in Aug (hopefully) with free dining, so need to keep at least 4 day hoppers on our package, which I increased to 10 days. Due to the pandemic, 2 of our APs from last year will be extended to cover the entire trip. DH's has already expired, so will need to buy him new AP. Don't want to pull the trigger on the new AP if WDW doesn't open in time for our trip, but want to be able to make & keep all our FP. Should I keep the 10 day tickets until the week before so I can make his FP with ours, or is there another way?

Sorry, I'm a little confused. How long is your August trip - do you need 10 days? And is there anyone else on the reservation needing those tickets, or is it just the 2 of you with APs?

Everyone on the reservation must have the same tickets -- number of days, type of ticket (base, PH, etc.) and such. So if your party consists of only the 2 people with APs, you can drop the package tickets down to the minimum required (I thought that is 2-day but you state 4-day PH). You can call the passholder services line and request placeholders which will allow you to book FP+ on your APs for the new dates.

If you have more people in your party, some of whom need the package tickets, you will have to purchase the same for the AP holders as well. You can use these tickets towards your renewal/AP purchase.

I tend to be confusing at timesTrip is for 13 days. 2 out of the 3 of us will have active APs due to the pandemic extension, so we'd prefer to just get a new AP for the 3rd person instead of paying for extra days on the 3 PH package tickets (adding the possibility of a future trip). We have old unused tickets to use to towards renewal or new APs. Do you think they would put a place holder for all three of us to be able to get FP, or just the two who will have the extension? If we had to, I would buy the new AP cert now.

Why not keep the 10 day and use that to upgrade the 3rd person to AP when you're down there?

I believe you can use the other 2 to apply for AP renewals (if you're interested in renewing those 2)

The FP+ placeholder will only work for those who have an expired/expiring AP in their MDE account. A new AP voucher will allow for FP+ booking.

You can't remove tickets completely for the free-dining offer. Do the math and decide if "free dining" (which requires booking a room at rack-rack) is the best deal for you since you already have older unused tickets to use for AP renewal; there might be a room-only discount that works better for you. Doing the free-dining package will again leave you with more unused tickets for a future renewal.
