How to add 8th day- booking question

We own AK but are planning a Poly stay (not until July 2020). At the 7 month mark I have the points with borrowing a little to book 7 nights. I will be able to do this part online. If I want to add an 8th night to this trip I was considering the OTU point or a transfer of points - not sure which way yet but obviously either way requires a call to MS.

Because i would be looking to add a day to an already booked trip could i just call to have them add on that 8th day using either the OTU or transferred points? or would i have to wait until exactly 7 months to that day to add it on?

You can call to add the 8th night the next day after the 7-month window opened. IOW, on DAY X you would book your first 7 nights, on DAY X+1 you would call to modify the reservation to add the 8th night.
