I am reading a lot of articles (aka torturing myself with too many options lol) today about what your "colors" are for the wedding...

No I thought I had some of it picked out (Fuchsia and Orange) but I am looking around and seeing all sorts of things listed as good "accent" colors... I am so confused!

So I have 2 colors I like and now think a 3rd might be nice too... so the options for a 3rd color are Lime green, Turquoise, and purple... anyone have any thoughts on that?

But OK, now for the real question... How in the heck did you decide and select your wedding colors and why? I am starting to get super confused up here in Red Sox Nation about colors so any insight or expertise for you lovely Disbrides would be tremendously appriciated:goodvibes

For me it all come down to what colour I could get the bridesmaids dresses in. I was very fussy about what style dresses I wanted for the girls so it took me a while. When I found ones I liked the only colour I did like was a purple colour as it suited all the girls.

I did toy with the idea of black dresses or even blue but it didn't suit the girls.

Everything was then set around this colour.

For me and DF we chose the color red, white, gold, and black. The way we went about this was we chose something that we but love and something we wanted to included in our day. We bothe chose the Fratnerities that we are in. My is Sigma Alpha Iota and our colors are red and white. DF's is Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia with their colors being red black and gold. So we are using these colors because we really love them and also because they are also some of our favorite colors.

We didn't choose "colours" per se. I decided on a palate based on the colours found in peacock feathers. We were going for a 1930/art deco design vibe, and the peacock on our wedding invitation served as inspiration to create a through-line.

The colours were beautiful and rich together. I was really happy with how it worked out.

my colors are medium pink, light pink, for the flowers and the BM dresses are going to be a bright turqouise blue. i got my idea from theknot.com they have great wedding pictures and color ideas.

Originally, my colors were purple with pink and champagne accents. Well, turns out I couldn't find the shade of purple I wanted in bm dresses. When we went yesterday and had the girls try all different colors they all looked great in a tangerine color. so now my colors are orange with pink and champagne accents. I'll probably throw purple in still b/c it's mine and df's fave color. I might add some sunny yellow in there too! I like really bright colors!

Turquoise, orange and fuchsia are my three favorite colors, and, like children, I love them all equally. :rotfl:

However, I picked turquoise and orange as our main colors because I love love love how they look together, they carried through our vaguely Moroccan theme, and I had never seen them as wedding colors before. :thumbsup2

I just knew I wanted a 'fall' theme. I found chocolate brown BM dresses and went with a burnt orange accent color. We were married at the end of October so it all just seemed to fit.

First we went with a Mickey theme: Red, Black, and yellow. We didn't really love them. I'm not a fan of the color red. So we got to talking and picked our 2 favorite colors, his Blue, and mine was a bit tougher I like yellow and green. But I didn't like Royal Blue with Clover so I decided to go with yellow. Then we didn't want a Beauty and the Beast theme, and ended up going with a Fantasia theme.

I will say, I spent a lot of time looking at David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo trying to pick colors. I love color, and I think if I wouldn't feel funny I'd wear a blue wedding dress. Color is a big part of our wedding and We're really happy with our choices. We love that it's our favorite colors, and then shades we're both happy with.

Thats just like me! We have an October wedding, with a beach feeling (if you can picture that at all). So the colors are orange and brown, and (khaki for the groom's attire) but tropical calla lilies for the flowers to make it feel like Florida and not PA.

I had a friend go to the tie area in a Macy's...He majored in art and design and we just put colors together until I found what I liked.

I LOVE the lime green, turquoise, and purple idea...go with it.

My advice is to pick a theme. From there, it is really easy to pick certain colors according to that theme.

For instance, for my theme I want to have a fun August wedding. So we are doing a summer "fair" theme. We are having Caremeled apples, apple crisp, a cotton candy machine and salt water taffy along with all sorts of delicious summer food. It is an outdoor reception which goes along with the summer theme. We are having a photo booth and a fun band too!

For the centerpieces we are having green apples in large tall glass vases. With Pink flowers.

So naturally our colors are granny apple green and like a water melon pink. We're doing ivory/ tan accents. The groom is wearing a tan tux and my dress is ivory with champagne lace.

The colors really just all came together once I picked a theme. I had the same problem as you though and liked way too many color combos. I'd also google your color themes and look at google images to see what color boards come up.

Good luck and happy planning!

thanks everyone, I am going to have to start looking around :) I like the idea of going to the tie section and putting things together!

Who knew colors would be so tricky!

We also didn't really have a "theme" until I found this online today...

Pink and Orange — Depending on where you live, pink and orange (and all its cousins, like orange and fuchsia) might be practically classic, or delightfully daring. Pink and orange says "no fuss, no frills," and it's all about whimsy, color and clean lines.

So I think we are going to go with a "No Fuss, No Frills" theme... is that even a theme lol?

My colors started with my flowers. I do not like white flowers for a bride in a white dress. Too much white for me. I knew I wanted black magic red roses for myself and decided to keep it simple and do the same for my girls, only on a smaller scale. Then I needed a color to go with red. I wanted something rich since we were getting married in December. I ended up with Chocolate Brown and I love the way it looked together!

Originally I wanted a Patriots wedding... didn't happen.:headache:

Then I wanted a Princess Pink wedding... didn't happen.:headache:

Then I started looking at Disney movies for a theme. You know the scene in Beauty and the Beast where they're dancing? Well we got blue and yellow from that. Blue is my favorite color and yellow is my MOH's favorite color. We made them pastel to go with my theme (Meg and Rob's New England Wedding in Walt Disney World because there's no chance of snow down there!) It was a color scheme that I really hadn't seen much of, so it was different and that made me happy.

So from the Northern part of Red Sox nation - that's my convoluted answer Sam! LOL!! :rotfl:

Orange & Fuschia is fun!! (of course I say that, since those were my colors).

My reasoning for having those colors is

1. I wanted a FUN wedding. I wanted it to feel fun and cheerful and happy :) I'm not into the super elegant, pretty.. I wanted crazy fun! Orange & Fuschia make me smile, they're happy colors :goodvibes

2. It was summer - so it made sense!

I'm part of Red Sox nation too... (lived in Boston for many many years ..just outside Fenway park.. man I miss it!). Not that that has anything to do with my colors, but I thought you'd appreciate this - check out my garter belt!!! Woo hoo!!!! :cool1:

For me it worked like this:

Most brides pick basically everything they want for the wedding so I let my DH pick the color (which was blue- his FAV!!) Then we selected a December wedding so I decided Navy and Light blue would be great with silver and crystal accents to go with my dress to further enhance the "winter theme". The actual shade of light blue (Desert blue) was decided by Vera Wang (who did my flower girl, matron and maid of honor dress). We used the Vera Wang invites as well to incorporate the correct shades & make my life easier. (You would never believe how many shades of Navy and light blue there are!)

So anyway, my DH picked the "color" to get him involved and then I picked the hues! And selected magentas and deep pinks for the flowers because it was a nice contrast!
Here are some candids of the girls and the flowers:

I have been stuck too!! I like the idea of pink and orange, very fun!!

I basically picked pink and green because they went well with the Attic. I think they turned out pretty nice. I liked the contrast. I had different shades of pink and a sage green.
