We submitted our request for Hawaii in Sept 09 with a few choices of resorts and dates. What are our chances? Thanks for any insight.

I don't know the answer to your question - but let us know if you get it! We went to Maui in March & were unable to get anything so I booked the Grand Wailea instead. Interval International would have been a lot less points! When I first joined DVC I booked a week at the Fairmont Springs in Montana through Interval and had no trouble even though I was was not very flexible on dates. Maybe I was lucky.

I don't know about Hawaii but I just received good news today. We put in for an exchange for The Royal Sands in 07/09 (I gave only one week and not sure if I gave a second choice - I don't think I did). We put this request in at the end of August 07. This is the first time exchanging in almost 8 years of owning dvc (except for DCL) and I am very excited and looking forward to this.

I hope my sil gets hers also.

Good luck and definitely keep us posted.

September should be relatively easy pickins. However, exhanges in II typically don't happen more than a year in advance, so you may be waiting a while.

Go to Hawaii all the time (don't know which island you've requested), but as a general rule, September is a slow month, so you should be ok.

We asked for a 1 bedroom unit at The Westin Ka'Anappali or the Marriott Maui and The Kauii Beach Resort or Hanalei bay

I will say that your chances are good to get a match. I wouldn't expect to hear anything until next spring though.

Yes it will take that long. The Owners of those resorts can not book until the one year mark. Then extra inventory is made available to those owners who are part of the system, but not own in Hawaii. Then the left overs make it out to II around 7-4 months out from check-in.

Wow, the exhcange really takes that long? So your waiting in Limbo for almost an entire year???
Actually it doesn't really, it's based on when the owners can and do deposit. MOST resorts can't deposit more than a year out, that's true for the Westin but Marriott could be as much as about 13.5 months.

For Kauai I'd probably add the other Marriott even at the cost of the 270 points and frankly, I'd subtract Hanalei Bay, too much of a gamble and too many bad resorts to take the chance plus the 1 BR units tend to be the worst ones there. For all of Sept I'd give this about a 90% chance of success but it's likely to be 6 months out before you get the match. Had it been for a 2 BR, I'd say about 50/50 for the resorts in question.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding the resorts. I will keep you posted as time goes on, but any new info would be great!!!

Keep checking to see if the Westin on Kauai is added later, if it is, add it to your request.

Dean's advice worked for us...

We put our request in May 2007 for the Fall of 2008 for Kauai. We listed both Marriott's for a 2 bdrm. Our match came through earlier this month for the end of October.:thumbsup2

I put in in August 07 for the Harborside Atlantis 2 bedroom Aug 08 and a 1 bd at Marriott Maui Ocean Club in Maui, Hawaii for June of 08. June of 08 never came through so I cancelled in Feb and book the Grand Waleia. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :lovestruc

My brother in law has a Marriott Vacation Club on Oahu for two weeks which he booked May 07 and we are spending the first week there. He had an exchange on his second week for the Marriott Maui Ocean Club and it just came through at the end of March. Don't know if mine would of come through.:rolleyes1

Still hoping for the Harborside at Atlantis but it might be a longshot.:sad2:
