How strict are dining reservations on time?

I am holding 2 reservations for Cape May because while I would like to see us make a 7:40am reservation, I doubt we can.

I have a 9:50 booking but that means we'll lose the whole morning.


We are staying at BCV. Is it rude to come to breakfast in our jammies?

I hope you're kidding. Pajamas would not be appropriate at the Cape May buffet. I personally think it is not so nice to hold 2 reservations at the same place for the same meal, but that's a whole different issue for the dining boards.

Yes, it is rude & if you know you're not going to make the 7:40 reservation then you should cancel it. If you're worried about losing a whole morning keep checking for times on a different day that would better suit your schedule. People cancel all the time.

I thought when you now make ADR that Disney takes a credit card number and if you don't show or forget to cancel you get charged a $10./$20 per person fee depending on the restaurant.

Please don't come in your PJ'S it's bad enough to see guests walking the halls in them, your not at home. why would you

Good point, I was forgetting that Cape May breakfast is a character meal so has the CC guarantee. Must be cancelled in advance or you will be charged $10 per person.

And this is why people can't get ADR's. I think they should charge cc 10 or 20 per person for everyplace anymore and maybe that would help. I don't k ow what the answer is but I hate having to stress about places I want to eat at cause I might not get times 180 days out already!

There is typically a 20-minute grace period but it is at the CM's discretion. They do not have to let you in if you are that late, and if they do, it would be as a courtesy.

And please no PJs.

Because of the over 2 hour time difference, the reservation system did not trigger the requirement that you cancel one reservation to get another because the system construes that many hours in between as two separate reservations. For Cape May, which is a Character breakfast, you do have to guarantee the reservation with a credit card and you get charged a penalty (used to be $10 a person; don't know if it has gone up) if you don't timely cancel or don't show up, but you can cancel any time 24 hours or more before the reservation and not be penalized.

This is a Character breakfast which includes your taking pictures with the characters. Guests do not come in pajamas.

My family isn't the greatest at getting up, getting ready, and getting out the door in the mornings so I guess I understand why you're asking about pjs. With that said we would never show up in our PJ's to any restaurant, quick service or sit down. When we have really early reservations I set out everyone's clothes the night before and make sure we're all cleaned up so no showers or anything needed in the morning. If you want to keep your early 7:40am reservation my suggestion is get everything ready the night before and everyone clean. This way the alarm goes off and you just get in your regular clothes and go. Since you're staying at the BCV you have a big advantage and can walk down 5 mins before your time.

Also I agree with the PP who stated they give about 20mins after your time, but its at the CM's discretion. If you are really unsure if you'll make that reservation cancel it now and give it to someone who can really use it.

Clean up the night before. Throw something on. Put your hair in a pony tail. Let hubby shave. Do whatever else you must do after breakfast. You can roll/straighten hair, put on makeup, brush your teeth, etc. afterwards. I had to put some thought into teethbrushing...but isn't it better to brush after you eat?

A 7:40 breakfast is tough, but a lot depends on what you were doing the night before and how many are attending. We are a family of 3, and we would have no problem getting to a 7:40 breakfast that is taking place in our resort. Of course, if we were out for Wishes until 11PM the night before, it would be a little more difficult. I agree with those late morning ADR's taking away valuable time. We always try to get the breakfast ADR's before 8:30AM. I assume that 7:40 is probably the first seating, so they will probably cut you some slack if your 10-15 minutes late.

Actually, this is more for the kids. I don't normally wear PJs to bed, and what I do wear, I don't feel comfortable going out in. So DH and I would most likely be ready -- it's the 4 kids that are probably literally going to be rolling off the bed, getting a gargle, some water in their faces and straight to breakfast.

If we have time, of course they'll get dressed up.

I might just cancel the 7:40am one. The kids body clocks would still think it's 6:40 and that would be TOO early for them.

Character meals can be really picky on times - we've watched people get told "sorry, you were later than fifteen minutes."

We've also seen people turned away from Cape May for inappropriate clothing (swim coverups).

Depending on time and staging, yes they may seat you early. We're typically 15-20 minutes early for all of our ADRs and have and haven't been seated early. Most often, it happens at open. They stage the seating even at opening so not all tables are seated right at 8am (or whatever time, 4pm for dinner seatings). In those cases, frequently we've been seated early.

After that, we've found it really depends on guest flow. Once they fill the place they can only turn tables as available.

Why would you do that just because you are staying there? Not sure I understand that reasoning, and I certainly do NOT go out in public ANYWHERE in my PJs, but especially at a public restaurant. I'm not even sure that is legal. Isn't it kind of like "no shoes, no shirt, no service"?

I consider the confines of my room to be my "home." Once I step outside my room, I am in a public area.
