How spicy are the Mexican restaurants?

I'm figuring out all the food options for our trip. (DS has lots of food allergies) How spicy are the kids options? They love tacos at home (which are heavily seasoned, not the packaged stuff). They do not like chipotle chicken though. (says it is too 'hot') I'm looking at the arroz con pollo specifically on the kids menu.

ETA: I'm thinking spefically the QS in DL and DCA. I'm trying to figure out food to get on the go for parades that are allergy friendly. Thanks!

Kids options are quite bland for the most part. My son hates spicy food and he always orders the kids bean and cheese burrito and finishes off the whole thing. He also has a lot of food allergies and the Mexican places really are easiest to find things he can eat. The arroz con pollo for toddlers at either Mexican restaurant (Cocina Cucomonga or Rancho Del Zocalo) is terrible though--boiled chicken and very bland rice with a side of apple sauce. And it's a very small portion, so if your child is over the age of 2-3, it might not be enough. My 18 month old twins refuse to eat it because they prefer flavorful food, but any toddler portion is very small. It's one thing not to like spicy. Another thing entirely to choke that down. The burrito really is better. Adult dishes, however, can be spicy, so I don't recommend those for him.

Rancho del Zocalo is not spicy at all, my daughter and son have both been eating there since they were a year old, sharing off our plates, I usually get enchiladas and H gets the carne asana or burrito w/ meat (I can't remember what it's called). They have kids options too if the adult options might be out of their comfort level.

That stinks about the bland chicken! I'll have to e-mail special diets about some of the other options. He's 18 months old, and likes flavor. Not a fan of plain chicken so much but LOVED the tacos tonight. (ate as much as me with the meat!)

Thanks for the info!

As said above, the Mexican food is not spicy. Even the food at Tortilla Jos is not spicy, unless you ask for extra-spicy guacamole that they make right at your table. o_O

I have never found any items spicy. I have to load it up with hot sauce to make it edible. I hate bland food.

I would recommend calling the special diets line, as you mentioned and ask what the ingredients are rather than how spicy it is. I find that people's perception as to what is "spicy" can differ wildly. I've eaten items that I was told were not spicy at all and my mouth was on fire. My mom is allergic to peppers, so I was not raised with foods that had any spice other than garlic. So, I never built up a tolerance for it. Flavor and heat are two very different things. You know what seasonings you use in your cooking at home, so I would use that as a gauge to compare to the ingredients used at Disney (especially with allergies). We were quite surprised to find out that even the clam chowder at Disney has Tabasco in the base. You just never know, so it's good to be prepared.

If you are thinking for on the go just know that both of the QS places the food comes on real plates, not paper plates. So I am not sure how well that would work for parade food.

I don't think the food is too spicy. I have never had the chicken though. The enchilada sauce is a little spicy to me but you can always get it on the side.

I think the thing I was thinking was spicy was the beef that they put in the Burrito Sonora at Cocina Cucomonga. That's what I order every time. It's not that it's overwhelmingly spicy, but the sauce it's cooked in can have a bit of a bite. I don't really know about the chicken entrees because I never order them.

Granted I don't specifically order spicy things, but I've always found the Mexican fare to be bland.

Ugh. Good to know thank you! I would think though that you could get it in some type of to go container? It's hard because the kids like to eat at 5 and that's the time of all the parades! With the food allergies, are options are more limited. (and, well, the baby is only 20 months) I know Flo's are on plates too.

I second the incredibly BLAND kids' rice. Next time I'll still get the bean and cheese burrito for my 8 year old but ask if he can have the adult rice with it, which he much preferred. And it could not have been spicy because neither of my kids can handle spicy food.
