how soon do you start packing?

our trip is in 6 weeks and the kids have been packed for about 2 weeks. they were driving me crazy saying how bored they are (we only have a computer, tv, video games and friends) so i told them to start packing. we have the bathing suits, towels, shorts and the 9 disney costumes my youngest daughter is bringing because she wants a different one for each day. i did realize there are a few things i need to pick up, like ponchos and gloves incase it gets chilly at night. I still have to get my own luggage, we flooded a few weeks ago and everything in the cellar had to go. good thing the girls was already upstairs.

I am sort of a last minute person on the packing. I am more concerned that our laundry is all done and house is spotless so when we return we can be functional the next day, I had planned our trip for a year but did not start packing until the night before. I figure if we forgot something it was not the end of the world. Our house was really clean before we left and instructions for the pet sitter for my 13 year old cat were in place.

Good luck, try not to over analyze/plan the trip, Just have fun otherwise you may make yourself crazy.

We start laying thing out about 2 weeks. Then the weekend before we leave I pack little by little by checking thing off the list that we are gonna need. Then the last things we pack are the kids activity pack packs for the parks. That keeps me really busy. Then before u know it it's time to hop in the car a turn on the Mickey Mouse club theme song and drive 13 hours to our wonderful 2nd home!!!!!!! I WANNA GO NOW

Trip is 3 weeks away and Im so tempted to start packing
Whats wrong with me?
Maybe if I just start a packing list that will tide me over
How soon do you start packing?

As soon as I empty the suitcases from this trip - we have "Disney clothes" which I wash and put in the suitcases right away, then I refill all the toiletries, etc. and pack them. When it comes time for the next trip, there is less to do.

We leave on the 20th and I started to pack last weekend. We are in MI so I can pack the summer items now, Im waiting to keep my eye on the 10 day forecast though before I finish w/ the clothes!!

I have been packing for a while now; gathering the little goodies, ponchos, room tree supplies, etc. I have to keep it hidden away because my DH already thinks that I am nuts enough as it is. He travels a lot and he packs minutes before he walks out the door.

Normally I pack either the day before, or even the morning we leave. But I'm kind of excited about this trip, so I've gone and made a list - and we're still six weeks away!

I can't imagine packing any sooner than the day before, though.
:hippie:

I had three large suitcases, one toiletry bag, two duffel bags, a backpack, and a bag of shoes packed a full three weeks before we left! :goodvibes All we had to do was load the car the night before we pulled out!

I start making up packing lists months in advance yet only actually pack the night before we leave. Otherwise, I would pack...and unpack...and pack...and unpack...you get the idea.:rotfl:

LOL:rotfl:, I make those lists too! Waaaaaaaaay in advance! Do you include everything... like even your H&BA? I had our (check off box) bullet/double column list so detailed that it took three pages in Word by the end! It was so specific I noted what perfume I was taking, aftershave type for my two guys, deoderant types for each of us three, and so on! My husband laughs over my lists but we did not have to purchase one thing there... nothing was forgotten! :woohoo: I was packed though, three weeks in advance (thanks to my "handy dandy" detailed lists)! :rotfl2:

You rock! I never thought of re-packing the suitcases. I bought two larger Rubbermaid type tubs and did the same with our "WDW clothes" and all related items (Disney car organizer, my sling bag, and so on). Next time I will borrow your idea... inside the suitcase is a wonderful plan! PS: I have wanted to say this before but had not replied to any of your posts, your little girl is beautiful! princess:

I've already started packing & we have 31 days to go! I have put our warmer weather clothes in our suitcases instead of packing them away for winter. I also have our rain ponchos packed along with a few other must haves. All I have to do now is pack the cold weather stuff that I really hope we won't need!:wizard: Here's hoping for 70 degrees all week!

We leave January 24 and I already have half of the kids clothes packed. (They are summer clothes that they are not wearing anymore). I will probably pack the rest the first part of January.

We leave Friday 11/9 at 2pm I have been "packing" for about 4 months but I'm still not packed. I've mainly been throwing things at the open suitcase for the past month but I haven't really picked out outfits or anything yet, the kids & DH are all packed but I have to go through their suitcases one last time to make sure we didn't miss anything. I think Thursday will be a late night for me, I'm still working on making 25 shirts for our grand gathering too.

We leave in two days!!!! I think I have been packing forever, but since this is a surprise for DD, I have to do in secret. I have a day off today, so I will finish packing while DD is at school.

Well I would say that you start paking a few days before you leave like 3 or 4 mabey but if you want to start paking you could certainly start.

We leave in 8 days and I am packing NOW! That way, nobody wears any of the clothes we will need that week and I am not stuck running around at the last minute finding and washing clothes!

I will forget what is in the bag if I prepack. I just do it the night before I leave but have the items out and ready to go into the bag a few days before.

I had an "I forgot to pack and we're on the plane" dream last night. I always pack at the last minute and would like to avoid that this time. That got me thinking that I need to get a list going at least. We leave the 16th for 8 nights. I don't even know what to pack/how much to pack. Any suggestions? It's me, dh, ds3 and ds6.

I have a drawer that I've just been throwing things in, things that have been recommend mentioned here, things I've bought specifically for this trip, and things that I know I might forget.

21 more days!!!!
