we will only have 1 backpack and 1 small suitcase (think plane carry-on size) for our 3 day cruise next year, and really don't wanna check the small suitcase.
how quickly after boarding can you get to your stateroom? from reading everything, it seems as if the cm's usher you to the buffets right away. we were hoping to drop the bags in the room quickly, then get some grub.
is these feasible? or do we really need to check the one back when when fl tours drop us off?

As soon as the room has been serviced by your stateroom host.

Our room(s) were ready as soon as we boarded both times, and we boarded by Noon. The SH was on the hall servicing other rooms though, so all were not necessarily ready to move in.

Even if yours wasn't, I doubt they would mind if you dropped off a few things out of their way.

I haven't been on a cruise yet, but from what I've read over the past few months, you can't get into your cabin until after 1:30pm, so depending on what time you get onboard, you'll be stuck with your bags for a little while.

I read a post not to long ago about them actually blocking off the halls now so you can't drop off bags. I don't know if they still do this or maybe they were cleaning the carpets.

They do indeed block off the halls until the staterooms are ready. We sailed on the 8/7 Magic and were able to get into our room at around 1:30.

If there is no rope blocking your hallway you should be able to go down and drop off the bags. Our rope was down shortly after noon and went to drop off everything.

1:30pm is what they tell you..both times, Wonder and Magic that is what it has been. Especially on the wonder..the castmembers were adament about us not going into the cabin hallways.

Keep in mind that while the stateroom hosts clean those rooms on turnover day, they open several doors at once - for that first cleaning, apparently they work in teams (or it looked like it when I checked and again when I left - they also tell you that your door will be open so don't leave luggage there during the disembarkation talk)....so I wouldn't drop my luggage in there - someone might swing though and steal it.

There were a LOT of people in Parrot Cay with more significant luggage than you are talking about. I, personally, wouldn't want to haul it around, but its doable.

It was roped off until after 1:30 for our cruise. You don't have to go to the buffets, you can pretty much walk around anywhere except to rooms. Explore the ship, make your Palo/Spa reservations, relax & have a beverage of choice until your room is ready.

thanks for all the info. since we're traveling to the port for the Poly, we probably won't make it to the port until about 12:30 or so (how long is the trip from wdw to port anyway?)
it seems like after we get all checked in it should be around 1:30, so this might work out after all.

The trip from WDW to the ship is about an hour give or take a few minutes.
