States Ranked: Smartest to Dumbest
The smartest state in the union is Massachusetts.

The dumbest, for the second consecutive year, is New Mexico.

These are the findings of the Education State Rankings, a survey by Morgan Quitno Press of the public school systems in all 50 states. States were graded on a variety of factors based on how they compare to the national average. These included such positive attributes as per-pupil expenditures, public high school graduation rates, average class size, student reading and math proficiency, and pupil-teacher ratios. States received negative points for high drop-out rates and physical violence.

#1 However, there are times that I have my doubts. :)

#36 Georgia

Actually higher than I thought it would be

#20.........that's not so bad.............

#46????

:Pinkbounc :bounce: We're improving!!!!

Look out Arizona; we're gunning for you next :p

(I'm doing everything possible to keep my DD in private school!)

#40, private school for us when the time comes! This subject gets me going more than any other so I will just zip my lips.

interesting...

I just read an article in my local paper about a "Bet" made on the Twins/Yankees playoff series..... Seems the NewYorkers bet if their team lost, they would send Cheesecake and Bagels to Minnesota, and the Minnesotans bet if the Twins lost they would send Lutefisk.... seem's like the Minnesotan's were the smart ones on that bet :D

If you've ever had Lutefisk you know what I'm talking about :D

#1, however if this is really true, I'm scared for the rest of the country.

47. No surprise. As soon as I saw the subject of this thread, I knew my state was in the bottom 5. Actually I was surprised it wasn't 50! My DDs are in private school for a reason.

I'm rather surprised by this. I go to college in Mass, and after comparing high schools with everyone my school offered a much higher number of AP classes than the Mass schools. In fact, we offer the IB program, which isn't even offered at most schools across the country.

I came to college with credits in Italian, English, and Economics, and that was normal for most of the graduating seniors in my school.

Ok, I am going to get flamed but...

Mass - has Harvard, right? So, most of the people there are NOT from Ma, right? So, if that raises the smart quotient of the state, it doesn't count, does it?

Also, notice that most of the "dumb" states are southern? Why is that? Not trying to be sarcastic here, just wondering.

BTW, MN is 12th, which is suprising to me. Thought it would be higher.

BytheSea - I laughed when I read that article in the Star Trib. NYers are the dumb ones there for taking that as the bet payoff. ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
