How scary is TOT?

How many drops does the TOT have now? The last time I went it was only 1 drop! I don't usually get motion sickness but I'm wondering if multiple ups and downs will bother me. Anyone been on it recently? :confused3

Thanks!

Only 72 days to go... til I turn my novice husband into a WDW addict!

Just got back a couple weeks ago. I rode TOT for the first time and it's now one of my favorites. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are a few different ride sequences with varying drops. I was enjoying myself too much to count, but I think we dropped 5 or 6 times :Pinkbounc

My DW spent 3 years preparing herself for that ride. She HATES heights and falling. She rode it once, and then again three more times. It ended up being her favorite ride there. The first time she was hanging on for dear life, then after that the hands went up for every drop.

It's scarey until that first drop and then it is more fun. Also its not just drops that are scarey, even going back up can be intense. Everything is random now and they have replaced the bar with seat belts now since it first open. It is the one of the best rides in disney.

I just did this ride for the first time just a couple days ago. As a self-admitted big chicken I thought that this ride was a bit too much for us. My DD7 and I had just ridden RNRC for the 1st time ever and went right from that to TOT. We were very hot and tired so that may have had a lot to do with it, but that ride was intense. The ups were almost as intense as the falling and at one point we felt like we were moving so fast, but I couldn't tell in which direction. We were both glad that we did it, but we felt a little "off" afterwards for a short time and we were glad to get into H&V for our dinner ressie and get cooled down and have a lot to cold stuff to drink. I really don't think that it would make someone sick unless you are very prone to it (or I would have been sick for sure) We dropped 5-6+ times.

I wish I could go back and ride it for the first time again because that is the funnest ride ever! I love taking first timers on it now because the anticipation is worse than the ride itself to me!!! I love waiting in line and watching the doors open and hear people screaming! My pulse is always up! I am kind of a chicken, but I really do LOVE TOT! I won't be able to ride on our next trip this Sept. because I am pregnant and that makes me sad just thinking about it!

utahkennedys- when are you going in september? We're from Utah and we're goin September 24-October 1

I say give it a try. The first time (even on the updated version ) it can be intense but after you ride it once the next times you can enjoy the ride without the apprehension. :earseek:

Scale of 1-10, probably a 5 at worst. It's a TERRIFIC Disney attraction :earsboy:

IMHO - I think you should definitely try it! I absolutely love it - and can't get enough... I think the biggest part of the "scary-ness" of TOT is the anticipation of your first drop... You just wait and wait not knowing when it will happen. Try to just get caught up in the ambience of the pre-ride, etc... I would agree with everyone else that you probably drop 5+ times... Though there are different drop sequences! I don't think you'll get motion sick if you aren't prone to it! Enjoy! :flower:

I went on it last week with my DS13. I had never been on a ride of this sort before, and I was PETRIFIED! I loved it though! We went on last Friday and then again on Sunday, and they do change the drops. The second time it seemed we went up and down alot more than the first. It's definitely one of my favorites!

I think everyone should try it at least once. I tried it once and have decided to leave it at that. I don't like feeling like I'm racing towards the ground only to be jerked up and thrown down again. It scared me. But my DD8 loved it. I will let DH have the honor this trip. ;)

When we went on it last week we dropped 6 times. We also spent more time in front of the window then we had the time before.

It's MUCH easier to take since they added seatbelts. The first time I rode it in 2002, there was just a little bar across your lap. You came right off the seat when you dropped. Now, there's seatbelts and grips to hold on to, and it's much more thrilling now than scary.

When you say you drop multiple times is that ALL the way down then back up then repeat, or a little down, back up, a little down, back up, etc... I can probably handle lots of shorter drops but not one big one. How long does each drop last?

We rode 24 times during our 8 night stay this month. These are 4 variations that the computer system uses to drop you. I believe that two (or at least one) of the sequences actually go up first. I avoided this ride for several years before I finally got the courage to try it a few years back. It is the most amazing experience! Especially if you don't hold on....you can feel yourself floating in the zero gravity and the seat belt holding you down. There are multiple drops for all the sequences but I think there is only one per each sequence that takes you from the top to the bottom. The rest are somwhere in the middle.

Best ride not only in WDW....but the whole world!

Ack, I can't do it! I really want to try it but I don't think I'll be able to handle the drop all the way down. Too much for me! Maybe if they work you up to it, like a few shorter ones to get my toes wet, then the big plunge... My husband won't go with me (and even if he could we'll have to kids under the age of three when we return) so I won't have any hand to hold. :guilty:

My DS (age 4 then, now 5) rode TOT in April. I thought for sure he would be scared to death. He was screaming and I thought he was screaming out of fear, but really he was screaming cause he loved it!! As soon as we got off the ride he wanted to go back on----so he and DH did, but not me!!!

I'm sorry, but that ride scared the crap outta me!! It was just too......uncontrollable, I guess is the word. You never knew if you were gonna go back up again or not-----I think we dropped about 6 times, if not more. To me, it was 6 times too much. I've never had a ride actually make me shake the way that one did.

Everyone should experience it once I feel---glad I did it at the time, but I think I'll pass next time. :)

It's not even the "drop all the way down" feeling---because it doesn't drop hard and tight--it kinda swooshes up and down..in a wave sorta way, if that makes sense. It's a very strange feeling. My hands were shaking too much for anybody to hold!!!
