How scary is the tower of terror?

I love the ToT. This is a must do for me. I actually get the bajeebees more from Soarin(still go on it though). My feet hanging from an open cart 100ft up will do that to me. :lmao:

:upsidedow I've done it once, and I'm not sure if I would do it again. When we walked off I was shaking, but laughing at the same time.

It really was fun, the decorations were great, but the anticipation was what made me so scared! I didn't know when we were going to fall!! :scared1:

I have to agree with another poster, the feeling that I got in my stomach was horrible. I don't think I would do it again because of that.

Personally I love this ride; however, my DH seriously dislikes it. Since the ride drop sequence is never the same you can't predict what's going to happen next. And often on this ride it's almost hard to tell if you're going up or down after the first couple of drops. You just become sort of disoriented. Honestly, that's half the fun for me but it causes my hubby to get a little green in the face. Not so good when we have a full day ahead of us in the park. So, while he's very glad to have done it once, he won't do it again.

As for heights, I'm not a fan but the Tower of Terror doesn't bother me. The short glimpse you get to the world below when you're on the top floor of the elevator isn't frightening at all.

My granddaughter rode it for the first time when she was 5 years old. She is now 8 years old, and thinks the rides Soaring and Snow White are scarier. ;)

I'm afraid of heights, but the ride (as many have pointed out) is far more about being immersed in a story, an awesome, creepy story. The visual effects are top notch, the attention to detail, even from the moment you enter the queue, are pure Disney. This ride (as my father says) scares the bejesus out of me. But it's a good scary, one that leaves you shaking, giddy, and shouting things like "Wooooooooo!" or "Yeaaaaah! We ride it as much as possible. Oh, the scariest ride for me, is, and always has been/will be It's a Small World. Those freakish animatronic dolls give me the willys.

re: high blood pressure -- read the warning signs outside of the ride. My guess would be that is on the 'do not ride' list, as it is with most thrill rides... but I'm not completely sure, to be honest.

To the OP -- in my touring party, we had both sides of the coin. I am a thrill ride junkie -- there's not a coaster out there I've been unwilling to conquor. I LOVE ToT; get major butterflies beforehand and it's one of the biggest adrenaline rushes out there for me.

My BFF, on the other hand, is afraid of heights. I've gotten her up to 80ft on coasters, and that's with much hemming and hawwing beforehand. Somehow she ended up riding ToT twice on our last trip. The only thing she had problems with was the windows opening... bless her heart, she tried to keep her eyes closed, but every time she peeked them open we were all the way up lol.

That said -- honestly you can't see out for very long, and by the time you've processed what you're seeing, you're falling again. The ride "up" is entirely in the building, and it doesn't feel like a 'heights' thing. Also, she has a fear of elevators but it didn't feel enough like an elevator to cause permanant damage lol.

FWIW, the only other issue she had was not realizing that you go up, forward, and then lift/drop -- she (along with half of our elevator) tensed up as soon as the doors closed, and I was really confused until I realized that if you hadn't ridden it before, you wouldn't realize there was more 'show' once you boarded the elevator, before the thrill.

Oh, and if you find you enjoy the out of your seat feeling... arms up rocks. ;) Whee!!!

My husband and I are not HUGE fans of thrill rides - moderate roller coasters are fun for us, but the really big ones are not our cup of tea. I think almost everything at Disney is small enough for our tastes, but we were wondering how scary the tower of terror is? What is the ride like? What can we expect? (My husband is afraid of heights - is that an issue on ToT?)

Thanks everyone!

It is AWESOME lol!!!!

What freaks me out on TOT is there is nothing really to hold onto. You have the handles next to you on the seat but I like to hold onto something in front of me lol. But I still love it.

Go on at night!! It is so freaky then:woohoo:

I know all the rides have all these warnings for pre-existing conditions... if you have this and if you have that... I realize they MUST post these to protect themselves... I just wonder if anyone else who does take meds for high blood pressure has been on the ride??? :confused3 :flower3:

You can say that there is at least ONE... who is posting this message.

Thanks Robo!!! How did you fare? No problems with the sudden drops? That is my husbands main concern... *and yes mine!

thanks,
Laura

I'm afraid of heights but the TOT did not bother me at all. In fact DW and I were giggling like kids, it was great.

I haven't read the whole thread but TOT is one of the only rides I will not ride at WDW. I've done it 2x, once with the old setup with just the bar and once with the new seat belt setup. I'm terrified of heights/falling and this was pure torture. I screamed bloody murder the entire time it was dropping and lifting and dropping and lifting and dropping and lifting...it was like it would never stop! :scared1:

I'm all too happy to wait in the lobby for the rest of the family. :thumbsup2

i dont think i've ever paid that much attention to how high the 13th floor might be. it doesnt seem that high to me. i remember seeing the park, but i dont remember it seeming that high. on the flip side, i am 6' 7" so i'm used to heights. i wouldnt think it will be an issue to either of you. i would suggest ride it once and see. most of it is the story of the hotel. the drops are at the end over quickly.

I don't think I'm a total wimp, but my kids make me ride this ride with them, and my knees shake the entire queue line, I shake during the intro, I shake getting into the ride elevator, I scream the whole time (it's up and down and up and down and up and down and I get all disoriented) and then I practically kiss the ground on my way out!

I guess it won't hurt to try it...:rotfl:

My dh has high blood pressure and that did not bother him at all - but like I said earlier he was terrified of the ride.

Now my oldest dd25 has a heart condition that causes her blood pressure to suddenly drop, which results in her pulse dropping and ultimately she passes out. She has ridden TOT many many times without any problem whatsoever. However, the last time she rode it she said she was slightly lightheaded afterwards.

well... having read a couple of the pages, here is my interpretation of ToT:

First time on it, in line, thought I'd barf waiting as I am so afraid of heights...wild rides, etc. (Yet I did all the coasters at WDW too...) My 7 YO had been on it 3X a few days earlier w/out me there, so what was I gonna do?? Be the cool mom... dying inside. Thought I'd faint from fear as the elevator car rode me through and I knew how high up we were... and what was to come. Would've gotten off then if I could. :scared: When we dropped, I knew I was dead. 'Til they caught us. Then I knew it was OK. I loved it after that, did it again later, and can't wait to do it again. I loved the view when the doors opened, everything was good once we were "caught" and I knew how it felt. Then it was just exciting.

TOT is one of my favorites.. How scary?? Well lot s of butterflies inside your stomach. I love it because of the height and the drop is very unique and scary. I love to shout and get scared..
