My dd is 6 and she loves it so much we had to ride it twice. She has seen the movie several times also.

It will depend on the individual.

I don't think it's scary or even spooky, but I've been on it soooo many times and it was one ot the attractions on the KTTK tour.

Last year we took our nieces who were 1 and 3 and they loved it, The beginning of April thus year we did it again with them and guess what, they were absolutely terrified. Go Figure.

I have never really been scared on the ride until I rode it alone. There were three adults and I volunteered to go by myself - well, I noticed so details. Try riding it alone - it is really different!

The first time we took our autistic son to the Haunted Mansion, I was a little apprehensive about how he would react. He was 7 at the time. I certainly didn't expect his actual reaction though. He fell ASLEEP! I guess he is not easily impressed.

When we first went on this ride our DD was 6, average kid as far as scare-tolerance I guess... in the stretching room a nice guy who'd obviously been there a few times (he was repeating the schtick along with the recording!) was kind enough to warn us about the lights out and the hanging corpse in just the perfect tone... DD felt forewarned and "in the know" and loved the whole ride. I think maybe she might have been shocked and scared by that first bit and not enjoyed the rest if she hadn't known it was coming.

My very smart and sensitive 7 year old didn't want to admit how scared she was of the Haunted MAnsion, so she said she thought it was kind of dumb and didn't want to go on it again. (She didn't want to lose face with her older brother.) But she later admitted to being very scared.
It was may favorite ride when I was about 10, but I can see how the ghosts and the eerie surroundings could be scary for a little one...definately not for adults though.

this ride used to terrify me as a kid, but now it's just fun!

I have always hated scary movies, haunted houses, etc. I was not pleased to be going on this ride on my honeymoon (first time to MK). However, it really is not that scary. If you are like me and get creeped out easily, there will parts you don't like and in the future might not look at, but it won't scare you. It's got parlor trick kind of scary things - you can figure out how they are doing it. Stuff like moving chairs, floating candlesticks, shadows, knocks on doors, seance looking scene, graves moving. I personally hate the attic and the bride - partially because the first time I rode the ride was on my honeymoon, and that just kinda creeped me out. But overall, it's not anything that will give you nightmares. Most people think it's nothing - if you scare easily you will probably not be scared, just maybe a little uncomfortable the first time.

the haunted mansion is not scary AT ALL! my 14 year old niece went on it for the first time when she was 4 and she wasn't scared of it at all! it's not a scary ride so don't worry. i would be careful when it comes to small kids, though. :cool1:

The Haunted Mansion has always been and will always be my favorite ride anywhere. Not only does Disney have this attraction down pat and others are just a poor imitation, they have famous voices that make the ride more enjoyable. People like Paul Frees (Ghost Host), Eleanor Audley (Madame Leota's voice), Leota Toombs (Madame Leota's face and Little Leota) and Thurl Ravenscroft (Uncle Theodore of GGG and Tony the Tiger fame) just make the attraction MORE of a classic...IMHO. I'm one of those annoying people who say the GH's spiel in the stretching room right along with him as well as the opening remarks in the foyer. Sorry if I ruined anyone's visit. :teeth:

I suggest subscribing to Tour guide mike. com He gives a detailed description of the rides and tips to help keep children from being frightened. :thumbsup2

Is anyone else getting sick of these folks who feel the need to jump into threads with Tour Guide Mike commercials that are only thinly related to the post? Geez, is he paying these people?

I'm a paid member of his service but this stuff is getting ridiculous!

Sorry, I know I'm off topic here myself but this stuff is really getting to me!

My daughter who is 6 is going to the World for her 11th time. The Haunted Mansion is by far her favorite ride and believe me, she gets scared easily. She is amazed by it. She did have a video which was called Disneyland Fun and she would watch it over and over and over. It shows the ride in there and she seen alot of it before going on it. She has been going on it since she was 2 (almost 3) and she never went out crying. I must say though, every kid is different. I just say wow through it as some is really realistic looking. Way to go Disney!!

I'd love to see who voted "Terrifying." This "ride" isn't terrifying in the slightest, although some play it out to be. It's been my favorite ride since I was about 6 years old! We go on it time after time. The ride is all in good fun, not meant to scare you.

I carry a little glow stick in my fanny pack. That way if we are on a scary ride like Haunted Mansion all DS has to do is ask for his glow stick. Makes him feel better, but isn't real bright, so doesn't light up the place and distract others.

I love this ride, wish it was longer, and don't find it scary in the least, except....

On our last day of our last trip we went to MK E-ticket night. My two sons ran to SM for one last ride at 11:56 or so but my DD12 and I decided on one last ride of HH if it was still open. It was one minute to midnight, but still open. We were the only ones there and the only ones in the stretchroom. When we got on the ghostmobiles (or whatever they are called) I am sure that we were the only ones other than CM who were in the building. Now, I don't find it scary in the least, BUT this night, all alone at midnight, it WAS pretty spooky. The little hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. When we got off the ride, along the path, we found the wedding ring. We have never ever been able to find it before. So...that was my last ride at WDW until I go back on Sept 30. :hmghost: :hmghost: :hmghost: :hmghost:

My nine year old DD was seriously creeped out by this ride. We told her it was funny, not scary, but the word "Haunted" and the corpse in the stretch room pretty much convinced her otherwise. She is a complete thrill ride addict (loved Space Mountain and Everest on the same trip) but the ghost/skeleton thing just terrified her. Couldn't convince her to enjoy it even with me explaining it all the way through. After that, every dark ride it was "is something going to pop out at me?" Maybe it's because we don't let her watch scary movies - she's not as inured to it as many her age.

IMHO - Not scary at all (for adults anyway) ... lots to see and take in - you need to be really observant to catch all the little things. It's one of our favorite rides!! :thumbsup2

I first went on this ride about 12 years ago as an adult and I didn't remember it being scary at all-just sort of campy and neat. So I thought nothing of taking my kids on it last week when we were at MK. My 9 year old ds liked it, but my 6 year old dd was really scared! The beginning with the stretching room and the voice saying there was no way out really terrified her, and she hid her face through the whole ride. She is not easily scared either, so I never figured this would scare her. I guess the darkness and the spooky narrator throughout the ride was enough to get her imagination into overdrive. And this is the same daughter who LOVED Rock-n-Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest!
